Battlefield News Roundup - Maps, SPECACT, Vietnam
Love the new map, Oasis. Been spending the past two days on a server that runs that map 24/7. Ran into Strobes while I was there, it was amusing to watch him make some of the kiddies rage when he killed them repeatedly.

TAC's founding game returns
I've already played a few rounds. I'm already shooting faces with the M3 and Mac11. Had a nice running stint with the M249 where I got behind the entire enemy team, set my bipod, and mowed them down - I couldn't see from the tears, I was laughing so hard. I cannot use the Assault Rifles. I'm still good with Subs and shotties though - definatly feels like Firearms. LOL. I'm missing the Saiga 20k and Steriling something fierce though. Hope to run into you guys on some of the servers I frequent, I've been having a blast. It's making me consider bringing the old name back in honor of the game that got me into FPS multiplayer hardcore.

Good games !!
Decaff is a monster. He and Deadly_AZN have been lowering my self esteem by killing me repeatedly lately. *laughs* But still, I can't complain. Been some seriously close games the past couple days.

"Tour of Duty" Series free streaming online
I used to watch this with my dad, who himself was a veteran of said conflict. Really opened my eyes to some of the crap he went through, and I walked away with a ton more respect of the man. Thanks for the link, Hogan. I've been thinking about this particular series a lot in the past month. It's gonna be nice to watch it again.

New Onslaught Mode Coming to Bad Company 2
Eh, yah. This doesn't sound all that impressive. When I heard about this mode I had first wondered if they were borrowing concepts from Unreal 3's Onslaught mode (Which I thought was pretty decent). But this... this is disappointing. But I guess I need to give them credit for at least attempting to make it look like they're selling games as a service instead of a packaged product.

Change our Rush server?
Very interesting, you guys mind if I pop my head in and check it out from time to time? Been kinda curious how this mode plays, but hate the idea of being stuck with pubs that have all the situational awareness of a deaf dog on vallium.

Do you believe in aliens?
I'm one of those who subscribe to "the universe is so vast, there has to be something out there" idea. Considering that fact, it's kind of silly to even consider we are the only ones here. It seems statistically improbable.

R8 Client and R12 Server Due Early Next Week
Those who frequent the skies are now happy, there will be counter-measures against the tracer-darts now. It remains to be seen weither it will be included as part of the vehicle or only installed on those who take the "smoke screen" perk. Personally, I favor the latter. You'll notice the knife fix is actually reversing a change they made in the server client, remains to be seen if this will make knifing as easy as it used to be. At any rate, it's gonna be nice to be able to backstab people again. The rumour mill is stating that the M2 Carl Gustov will be taking another hit, but I can't confirm it. I speculate we might see a reversal of the changes to the AN-94 and M16A2 as many people opposed the changes both those guns got (changelog did say there was going to be weapon tweaks based on community feedback)

Bad Company 2 R10 Balance Changelist
Aye, everybody has noticed it. If you are close enough to smell the cheap vodka on the guy, the knife won't take. It seems to work better if you start the animation early while you are still approaching the guy, but even then it's not a guarantee. It's completely FUBAR right now.

Bad Company 2 R10 Balance Changelist
Thought you guys might be interested in seeing the hard numbers and a visual representation of how the patch affected your favorite weapon. The link provided after this is data pulled directly from the game engine itself. Red arrows represent a "buff" to the weapon, whereas blue arrows represent a nerf. You'll also notice that the attribute bars within the game do not match up with this data, which makes it seem as if the in-game interface is lying. Enjoy http://denkirson.xanga.com/722757523/bad-company-2/

Its 8PM EST do you know where ur BFBC2 is?
Well, they managed to fill up the server today, until a clan came in, team stacked, stomped everybody, then everybody including me got fed up and left ><

Bad Company 2 change log
I have to tell you, I definatly feel the hit the M16A2 took. It still handles very well at long range as long as you are disciplined at your shots, but I'm having a helluva time getting anything done with it at closer ranges. On top of that, the 40mm Shotgun I used to pack to help overcome the M16's CQC shortcomings took a hit too. I'm almost better off using the 1911 for anything 10 to 20 feet away. >< It's compelled me to switch to the AN94. That is one mean rifle. I predict that may be the next "no skill n00b weapon" as more people discover it. As for the LMG's - hasn't reduced the number of medics on the field, but it has certainly increased their weapon variety. As for the tracer darts - I predict that will get reversed quite quickly.

BF: Bad Company 2 PC Patch Now Live
That's isn't the end of it there mate. Tracer darts got a speed boost as well. It's now ten times easier to hit a chopper with a tracer dart. I played rush to test this and was able to effectivly turn my area into a "no fly zone". It's so terribly easy to hit choppers with tracers, I predict that the speed will be reduced back dont if pilots down learn to adjust (fly fast and fly high) and avoid them. I easily took down a dozen choppers this way today. It got to the point that the other team stopped using the chopper altogether, it's that crazy Overpowered. I predict we may see more chopper pilots using the smoke perk as a countermeasure.

BF: Bad Company 2 PC Patch Now Live
Definatly felt the hit on the CG. Played with it a bit to see what the new radius is like and it definatly took a noticable hit. I used to be able to land the rocket next to a window in order to kill the guy in the window. But now it's just a wounding shot. The damage radius seems the same, it's just the lethal radius has been reduced. Expect more people who use this as their primary to see more assists and less kills. I used the 1911 a bit today. People who are worried about it's nerf need to just chill, it's still a monster. The 40mm Nade launcher - holy cow, they really hit that one hard. Shots that would normally wound or kill me now do nothing. It still has it's moments as I saw one well placed one take out a cluster of 3 people in a corner, but it definatly requires considerably more aim to pwn with it. Had trouble adjusting to the M16 changes, though. Really couldn't get a streak going with it. As for shotgun slugs. Yah, definatly noticibly harder to get a kill shot at range. But still monsters at medium to short range.

Platinum!!!!
About time you've caught up *points to his own platnum star* Although, I believe I still need your dogtags. I know you have at least a couple of mine. *laughs*

Bad Company 2 R7 Client and R10 Server Changelog
Good changes. A few I noted. MP – New Server browser<- Hopefully should make filling servers easier MP – Isla Innocentes MCOM building fixed where knifing the fence would destroy the building <- Exploited that a few times. About time they fixed it. MP – Reduced the brightness in Russian vehicles <- Oh thank god, it's bad enough the Russians have to face the sun in a few maps, now I can actually see what I'm doing in a T90 MP – Punkbuster filter now works as intended <- About damn time, I hear they also fixed that crashing bug too. Hopefully more servers can run PB now MP – Kit/gadget loadout saved between sessions <- And there was much rejoicing! It also appears I'll be losing one of my biggest advantages. I'm a "Fast loader", I'm usually on the battlefield halfway to the middle point while most people are still picking their loadouts. The game will now be implimenting a 15 second match start delay upon a new map. While I'll be losing a huge advantage, I have to applaud that change. I never felt right using that advantage, but I'll be damned if I don't when the somebody on the other team might. I welcome this change.

Baseraping rulset? Which is it?
Feh, it's pretty much how I feel. You can push out if you work together on it. So many cornered teams go into "sniper mode" and you lose all your momentum. I've tried popping smoke and leading the charge, but nobody charges. Hell, I've been the lone guy on the point while the rest of my squad sits outside of it farming kills when we HAVE NO POINTS. Moments like that just make me ragequit.
-
Baseraping rulset? Which is it?
@Decaff - No, it wasn't. If it was somebody with an (=A=) tag, I wouldn't even come here to ask. I would of just assumed that the rule was in place.
-
Baseraping rulset? Which is it?
Yah know, I don't exactly remember. And even if I did, the subject was dropped and he didn't carry on; so it wouldn't really be worth calling him out. I just wanted to know for future reference, nothing more.
-
Baseraping rulset? Which is it?
Aye, I am Defiant Wolf in BC2. I remember that match. I was trying to flank around the left with that one. Managed to get to B before I got spotted and ended up shooting a bunch of the other team in the back while I franticly avoided the sniper who was trying to pin me down. >< But no, it had more to do with a certain individual trying to tell me that there was a rule against it. I actually found myself double-checking I had joined The Armory server because it was so out of character for such a rule to exist. I decided to ask just to make sure, as it has been awhile since I've gamed with this group. Generally, the only rule has always been "Be Nice, or Be Gone". Good to see you guys still haven't made things more complicated than that.
-
Baseraping rulset? Which is it?
Traditionally, The Armory didn't have that rule. I know it was tried at one point as none of us really liked it, but there was difficulty in deciding where the line was drawn which caused the admins spending more time trying to explain the subject than actually playing. In the end, it was just more trouble than it was worth. However, I acknowledge a ton of time has passed since I last popped my head in here, so I know things are subject to change. I just want to ensure I'm on the right side of the line when I play in your playground. *laughs*
-
Baseraping rulset? Which is it?
Just looking for clarification, I honestly don't care either way and am asking so I know. Baseraping, is it allowed on your servers? Usually, it is, but somebody argued with me. I just want to ensure I understand which side of the line you guys are on in this matter. Thanks for your time!

Quick Lesson on tracer darts.
I've done that actually. You know that bug where your mousewheel doesn't switch weapons in the right direction when your in sprint mode? Yah, happened to me. Reached for M2 after emptying the AKS and got the tracer gun instead. Fired without noticing and was all WTH about it. The kill cam cracked me up though, there he is standing with my tracer dart lighting up his manhood. *cackles* "Hey buddy, you might want to have that looked at" Be aware, you can do it to your own teammates as well. It's a common griefing tactic to shoot your own snipers in the face as it 1) sometimes makes their screen blink red. 2) Lights them up for enemy engies. Something you may want to watch for while admining your servers as the tactic is starting to get around.

Quick Lesson on tracer darts.
There's more - I have yet to confirm this, but I am getting reports that if you use the smoke-grenade perk for vehicles, the resulting smoke actually removes the dart. Or at the very least, scrambles the lock. But it MUST be the vehicle-launched smoke. Apparently, smoke launched from assault rifles doesn't work the same way. (But it's stil excellent cover for covering your squadmate engie repairing that armor I suppose) I've always found myself drawn to the engineer class. Did it a bit in BF:Vietnam, although everybody was doing it when the M60 was an overpowered mess and you had the LAW as your backup weapon. *laughs* Ended up doing it in BF2, but didn't enjoy it that much. The SMG's weren't as good as I liked and I despised that I had to expose myself to use the rocket launcher. BF2142 was the first of the series that I truly enjoyed the Engineeer experiance. They truly got a lot of neat toys. The Engie is ridiculously fearsome in BC2. I almost felt guilty that the M2 Carl Gustov was the first weapon I got a Platnum star in. But yah, at times I get tired of it and go medic. If, for no other reason, to be the only medic on the battlefield using a 870 with 12 guage slugs.

Quick Lesson on tracer darts.
I used the search feature and it came up empty, so don't shoot me if this has been posted before because I tried. I'm posting this because I use tracer darts almost all the time but rarely see any assist points for it. I didn't realize how the whole "tracer dart" system worked until recently myself, so it's quite possible that quite a few of you are not aware how they work. I had assumed that it helped rockets home in on the tagged target, but I was only half right. In order for it to work properly, the RPG or M2 user needs to keep their target reticle on the tracer-dart box until they get a range indicator under the box. That tells you the rocket is locked onto the dart. At this point, you can fire the rocket and it will attempt to home in on the dart. I tried using this by firing straight up hoping it would come straight back down like a Javelin, but this doesn't seem to work. However, I have successfully shot a rocket over and around small fences and hit my target, while remaining completely out of cover. I haven't quite got the maximum fire arc's capable by the two launchers, but the system definatly works. And it seems to work quite well on helicopters as well - provided you can somehow get a tracer on them. My first Traced-RPG shot was on a heli in-flight (how the guy got a tracer-dart on it is beyond me). So there you have it. Next time you are carrying that RPG/M2 and you hear that a target is tagged, give it a try. Get behind a low fence, step back a bit, get your lock, then launch the rocket over the fence. You might be suprised how well it works.
