Good god yah, that default Engie rocket launcher really blows. Unless you get a shot in a sweet spot, you are going to end up in a cat and mouse game with whatever you are trying to hit. Going up the right side on the Assault kit seems to be working for me. Everbody who plays assault swears by the Voss. Never heard a bad thing about that gun. But what everybody else says still goes. Go for the extra nades and the 2 sprint unlocks first. They are a MUST HAVE
  2. I wish to god they would go back to the "All spawn points cappable" system BF:Vietnam had. I"m sick to death of being spawn raped in the uncappable spawns.

Actually Nadril, I do remove them... but sometimes I turn them on to see the "Fake" adds that crack me up sometimes. But yes, the whole situation with BF2142 has turned out to be overblown in alot of ways. Norton Anti-Virus on my system seems to have effectivly blocked the IGA software on my system from operating. It has ID'd it as a possible worm and I have told it to block it. I have been playing the game without any issues and add free. I accept that advertising will be a part of our gaming experiance and the norm in the very near future. However, I would really hope that game companies would try to make advertising "immersive". I mean, if we were playing BF2142 on the Berlin map, and we saw an add for the latest in next century snow parkas from Sketchers, it would fit alot better than an add for the new 2007 Dodge Charger, would it not? You can make product placement part of the background... just look what they did in Demolition Man with Taco Bell... they "futurised" the Taco Bell to make it fit into the storyline. Why not do the same? Why not seek adds for the new Polaris Snowmachines of the future? These adds would make much more sense, they also subconsciously communicate to the user these companies are the companies to the future, and alot of us might get a chuckle out of these "fake" adds that still advertise the brand name we know today. We're all used to adds, I just object to them taking up our bandwidth, spying on us, or taking away from our immersion in the game.

Depends on the round I guess. One round I'll score 20 to 30 points because I'll have good support doing what I do, and other days I'm lucky to get 5. One day I scored all 12 points in the course of 10 minutes just helping Jpenn and the rest of the squad defend a point in my walker. Had a great gunner up top, 2 engies keeping me repaired, and a commander giving me drops. We were just racking up the points holding a choke point.... Guess you just get those "ON" times that make up for all the "DOG" times.
  5. I was thinking today I was due to give another "Remember who you are TAC!" speech (not that it's really needed, peaple have been behaving lately). However, this Email in it's simple honesty, is much more moving than anything I can say. Thanks for sharing Gator!

Hell yah! Same squad too.... bonus points for assisting squad members in a certain radius from you.... and around a "attack" or "Defend" order given by the squad leader.... even more bonus points.

That explains my scores last night where I got 2 conduct ribbons and got ranked up. nice!
  8. I also had a blast. Got alittle irritated by having to call myself DeadRoachBF2, but I can ignore that. I think I could of fixed it by deleting my first DeadRoach profile in BF2142, but I think it's too late now. I've noticed that the city maps that are so popular are quite narrow and seem to encourage actual "battlelines" to be drawn. Peaple seeking cover, firefights occuring over the open space, ect. This is what I prefer. While I like city fights, it always irritated that there was no definate "frontline". The way the gameplay is shaping up lately, there is definatly a "frontline" now. And I'm LOVING it. I spent alot of time in a Tiger tank last night paired off with a Walker. We were in a squad of 3 together with Assault, Engie, and Support. So we were self supporting with Commander backup as well. We OWNED that map with the armor and firepower we had. I got 3 pins and went up a rank that map. The scoring system heavily favors the team player. Extra points given out to assisting a squad member with a kill, and giving extra points for kills made in an area around the objective a squad leader gives. Extra points also given out for kills made on a titan, either as an attacker or defender. Peaple who work together in their squads will definatly see their points and ranks skyrocket! As for the unlocks..... it is a bit annoying you have to pick them every time.. but I believe it allows you some flexability to choose your unlocks dependent on the map and class you feel you will have to play. Remember that most of the unlocks are side dependent. This also allows you to switch your unlocks if you know you are getting sent to a particular side. BTW... I'm in complete love with how the Support vs Assault rifles are balanced vs each other now. I always hated being killed by a "spray and pray" type in BF2 carrying a support weapon. Now... you can run and gun with the support weapons. They are deadly when prone and set up like they should be. But in an open field run and gun situation, my assault kit wins out like it should be. And I love my default assault guns... they are perfect! I hereby raise my initial score of 7 for this game to a 9!

It's even more fun if you can get a crew backing you up. Getting in with you Defcon, the 2 of us racked up some kills for a good 3 minutes before we got took out.
  10. Norton was blocking some of the sniffing when I first played. Didn't block me from playing tho. Interesting eigh?
  11. Actually, I found another possible posted fix. Rather than post a link as I'm sure EA will delete the thread, I did a cut and paste. Those of you who are more technically savvy than myself can tell me the merits of this possible way to restrict BF2142's access to the computer. ******************************************* I just thought I would post how I'm currently restricting BFs access to the files contained in my Windows personal profile (typically C:\Documents and Settings\username). Obviously this is probably being over cautious, but if you want to restrict BF's access to your system, then read on: - Create an account; I made one called BF2142 - Assign the account to the Administrators group; I tried to assign it to Power Users but PB might not like that as it requires special security privileges only granted to Administrators (or specifically assigned via Local Security Policy.) - Add the new account to the security ACL for the profile that you are logged on as. Therefore, if your username is "Bob" and your BF account is "BF2142", add BF2142 to the list of users for the directory "C: \Documents and Settings\Bob". Select that user and click the "Deny" boxes for all privileges. "BF2142" will not be allowed access to that directory. - Repeat this for every directory (or Registry hive) that you're concerned about. Do not do this for your BF installation directory... - When you go to run BF, use the Run As... command instead of double- clicking. Choose the "BF2142" account and specify the password. The BF2142.exe process will now run under the BF2142 account. Doing this has numerous benefits: Firstly, the "BF2142" account will be using an "empty" profile; i.e. none of your browsing information etc will be available to that account. If the IGA software does indeed scan your harddrive, it will only have access to folders that you have allowed the BF2142 account to access. Lastly, there are programs like "Process Explorer" that can show you resources being used by a process and/or specific user account. Therefore you can more easily see what this software is doing. Unfortunately, if PB does indeed require admin level privileges, the IGA software will also have admin privileges. Still, using Deny ACEs will restrict even admins accounts from accessing specific directories (though it won't stop them from taking ownership...but software doesn't usually do that, that's usually a user-action.) Message was edited by: Fiends (BF) ************************************** UPDATE ---- The thread I got this from was indeed deleted. Along with just about every thread on the EA boards concerning this issue. Thank god I had the presense of mind to Cut and Paste, because the moderators are stamping out this issue as fast as peaple put up posts.
  12. I keep telling you guys EA is the evil empire, but nobody takes me seriously. Now maybe you all will listen to the ol' Roach. At any rate, this was apparently done in Swat 4, and peaple found a way to block it. While removing spyware itself usually disables the program it's piggybacked on, I'm wondering if one can figure out which IPs and servers they are sending it too, if you can't block the info directly thru your firewall or whatnot? I mean, since the spyware itself is still intact, but the info just isn't going out, I wonder if you can fool the crap into thinking it's running into Internet problems?

Not suprising tho. Game companies have been slowly crawling into bed with advertisers for some time now. I've noticed Anarchy Online has started billboard adds for the Jeep Wrangler and Comcast... really irks me because it destroys my imersion. Wouldn't bother me if I was not paying to play the game. Showing that crap when I'm a paying customer irks me. As for BF2142... I'm not suprised by anything EA does anymore. They are the shadiest damn bastards in the industry. And if I didn't like the BF franchise so much, I'd never by a damn thing they sold. I'm sure you can try removing the spyware... however like most programs with spyware attached to it, I'm afraid that removing said spyware may cause the game to refuse to work.
  14. Change of news... it appears I'll be having my hands on a copy afterall as a late B-Day Present from one Mr LORD ORION. See you guys on the battlefield. Hollar if you need a good AA Gunner on your walker
  15. A very Einthusiastic GAWDANG IT'S FREAKING GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU AGAIN from this corner buddy
  16. As much as I would like to, I will probably have to put off my purchase till the end of the month. sorry :/
  17. I gave it a 7. The biggest reason I didn't give it a 10 was my experiances trying to defend the titan. First reason is the laggyness I generally get when in a close quarters fight indoors, like you see in the Palace of BF2's Operation Warlord map. I also have issues with hits not registering down there. I just opened up at 20 feet at a guy that podded down to our deck, sited in.... he managed to scramble away. I ran the corner, guns blazing at point blank.... WTF, I'M THE ONE DeAD? Cheesed me off big time. However, I think I can forgive that. I was having an absolute blast on the Titan's AA guns, pilots were starting to fear me *chuckle*. With a good comm that moves the Titan around, I could probably enjoy the underside guns as well. Ground pounding was okay. I felt the accuracy issues but I figure I can adjust. My gameplay with BF2 improved greatly once I found my G3... I think it's a matter of me finding that magic weapon I like. The Pods are a blast. Racing down to the ground at full speed, hit the ground running. My 6 year old was watching me play and we were both hollarin "Yahoo!" as I raced down to the ground on those things. LOL
  18. Kinda makes me want to play BF:Vietnam again.
  19. Natural Selection, hands down, was my most played Half Life mod. In fact, I still logged in from time to time and play it. Today, I was thinkin' of findin' more HL2 mods. I remembered reading once that the NS crew wanted to bring the game to the source engine. So I logged into their website to see if there was new news. I was gratified to see the game is still being supported. I was even more pleased to find that they do want to bring the game to the Source engine. And to boot, they don't want to just "port" the game, they want to take the time to do it right. However, they have had setbacks, most of them in the money department. Those of us who played Natural Selection know that alot of their funding comes from the community itself. It's no different this time. If you go to their website at http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns/ you'll find their latest effort at fund raising, including selling a rather nice game of Sodoku that I myself have picked up. If you are constallation member who has gone inactive, or just want to see the game go Source, please consider helping them. That is all.
  20. Just what we need, a bunch of uninformed old fogey's who don't play these games misinforming congress what they are about. Hey Gator, you said you wanted to find a job? You need to go to washington and be an old fogey who knows his games and put these peaple in their place.

As one of the first in the clan to unlock the PKM, I'm still biased to that beast of a weapon
  22. I wish FA would come back before they changed it to favor only the rushers and FAMAS jockeys. Rushing around with my SMG's get's very old after awhile. I miss being able to set up with a scoped rifle and kick back when I was feelin' lazy. Well, that and I miss the Stielhand. I miss being the top scorer on our server with that weapon
  23. I didn't like it when I first tried it. But the first one was warm so I decided to give it another chance. Ice Cold, I think the stuff is awesome. Gives me a great caffiene buzz to. I'd buy more of it if Vault wasn't so much cheaper.
  24. Unless things have changed drastically since I've read that blog from a wife of an EA coder over a year ago, the answer is YES, it will be buggy. 14 hour days, 7 days a week, almost constantly. So much overwork=a bunch of mistakes.
  25. You will see me back in a couple days. I'm running a 64 bit AMD processor at 2.0 ghz (That's 4.0 for you folks still in Pentium land) with 2 full gigs in RAM. I'll be playing Oblivion tonight. But tomorrow sometime... look for me in BF2!
