November 27, 200717 yr Counter-Strike Map Gets Teen Arrested - Virginia Tech again? No, not even close By: Filip Truta, Games Editorhttp://news.softpedia.com/images//newsrsz/Counter-Strike-Map-Gets-Teen-Arrested-2.jpg Enlarge picture A Chinese student living in the US, has managed to get himself arrested. Nothing spectacular so far - most of you are probably thinking that this has something to do with guns or drugs. Not even close! The vigilant law enforcers nailed him for a gaming-related "felony", Counter-Strike to be more exact, as Joystiq reports. The whole thing started when the high-school student, who still remains unnamed, put together a Counter-Strike map meant to re-create his school. After uploading it on a server, for him and his friends to play, it was only a matter of time until parents found out and complained to the "proper" authorities. The educational facility in question is the Clements High School in Fort Bend, Texas, an institution that was not shy in removing the boy and placing him in the district's alternate education school (probably a place for the retarded children). As if that wasn't enough, the police came and arrested the fellow, considering him a "terroristic threat". As a response, the boy's mother gathered the entire Chinese community and protested, finally managing to make the police drop any kind of charges. They considered the measures taken by the school and the police as too harsh, the sole reason for the harshness being the recent Virginia Tech shootings. The final punishments for the Chinese boy who wanted a piece of reality in his favorite game, is the prohibition of participating in his graduation ceremony. Everybody can understand that people are a little bit sensitive when it comes to school and guns (no matter the context), but this is plain ridiculous.
November 27, 200717 yr Agreed...So if I make a CS map of the White House and put it up Im gonna have CIA and FBI all over me?
November 27, 200717 yr whew! i almost made a map of my highschool couple years back! ALMOST GOT ARRESTED THERE!!! what a load of crap...
November 27, 200717 yr Agreed...So if I make a CS map of the White House and put it up Im gonna have CIA and FBI all over me? AFAIR there was a map of WH in Duke Nukem... And probably a school director get angry because there was no hidden gun in his office (mind you, they're in Texas)
November 27, 200717 yr Holy crap. Ho. Ly. Crap. This is ludicrous. Absolutely ridiculous. I'm flabbergasted, honestly. I can't even think of words to use here. ...At least the charges were dropped. -.-
November 27, 200717 yr I think he deserved what he got. I also think the charges being dropped was a good thing.
November 27, 200717 yr not shy in removing the boy and placing him in the district's alternate education school (probably a place for the retarded children). Alternative schools aren't for "retarded" children, in most districts they're more of a last chance for students with behavioral and discipline problems. At least his parents cared enough to keep an eye out for him. How many messed up kids just get ignored by their parents? We should hope more parents would keep a their idiotic kids in line.
November 27, 200717 yr LMAO, parents are worried about a map on a video game, when that same student is probably getting high after school and not doing so well on assignments. The focus is not what video games they are playing but the up-bringing. I dont think this kid should be in Alternative School. There was and Alternative School at my High School. It is for mis-behaved kids. Sometimes these alternative kids graduate early. I think this is stupid. Arresting a kid for designing a map when someone was mostlikely commiting a real crime and got away with it. Oh well.
November 27, 200717 yr Agreed...So if I make a CS map of the White House and put it up Im gonna have CIA and FBI all over me? They're already on the way, Big Boy!!!!!!!!!!
November 27, 200717 yr stupid crap again.free country looking a little less free now a days.well at least on the bright side instead of getting shot by the police your just gonna get tazed now:) alot and often.
November 27, 200717 yr Two things that come to my mind....First off do we know the whole story? Honestly was he arrested JUST for the map, or did he have something in his past? As crazy as this country is, as sensitive as we are I cannot believe some one would get arrested for creating a map? Video game makers do a hell of a lot worse(R6:Vegas). Also, if it was just the map then I would agree with some sort of action, arrested? No. But maybe counseling or something just to be sure, could you imagine the crap that Police office would take if they did nothing and turns out the kid is a psycho??
November 27, 200717 yr R6:vegas were not in high school. Where pushing a kid the wrong way can get ya some disciplinary action. After reading a lot of the stupid things this country does, I can believe that he was arrested. I know if I was a teacher and I heard about it, I would have tried to figure out the kids intentions with it. Having it be a "terroristic threat" though?....Come on!?!?!?!?!? It is a damn good thing the charges were dropped, the family could have gotten a nice settlement from the city for it I bet.
November 27, 200717 yr Well R6:Vegas does involve a shootout inside a school. I mean if they can do it why not a High School Student? Where's the line?
November 27, 200717 yr Agreed...So if I make a CS map of the White House and put it up Im gonna have CIA and FBI all over me? Hahahahahahahaa
November 27, 200717 yr Since Columbine Joe Public has now identified video games as a training ground for Jr. Psychopaths. Right or wrong, I think we're gonna see more of this sort of thing.
November 27, 200717 yr Thats stupid that he got in trouble at all for that. Personally I think that it would be really fun to play a map on CS that resembles a place that I see every day. If I made a map of my house for CS, should my parents freak out and have me arrested then? I can't really say, but I think that the kid just wanted to play a map of a familiar place. Its not like there were a bunch of students on the map, were there?
November 27, 200717 yr Apparently you've never seen this site http://www.dumblaws.com/ just click on a state and you'll see all sorts of stupid laws still valid and in the books today... click alabama i saw a couple doozys
December 5, 200717 yr I just cant see arresting him without intent of some soft. I mean unless he said he was using it for training to do a shooting IRL.... Just moronic. If this had been here and I had been around I would have had to ask the lead Inv.....WTF are you thinking? Is that all you have? Have you smoked a rock? Have you ever played an online game? Maybe you should think about retirement....ect ect.
