This drive is as fast as a Raptor. Great performance, great price. Didn't want this one to get past you guys.

The 640GB drive isn't in there, but it'll give you an idea of the value/performance ratio. :p http://www.sharkyextreme.com/guides/article.php/10704_3730751__2

the raptor is 10000 rpm,so wouldn't that make it a hair faster still?

thats what i was thinking, the raptors have to be faster

It has to do with platter density. Even though it doesn't spin as fast the head has to travel less, this equates to better file transfering, so that equals faster speeds. If you look at the review in the link above you can see the test results for your selves. :p

Even though everyone wants a 10,000RPM drive, the majority of new 500GB+ drive are faster than the raptors. Raptors do have a faster acess time by about 4ms, and a faster windows boot by a few seconds. Otherwise, they have fell behind new drives.

Unless you already have one, you can't run RAID 5. You need 3 or more drives.

I have 2x 500gbs

So I would use the extra 140gbs on each as just a regular partition

He's saying he'd use his 2 existing 500s and 2 new 640s in a single RAID 5 array.

ya if I get 2 more 500s that gives me 1.5tbs which is good

but to expand Id need to buy a second raid card and more drives so it gets pricy

and the 750gb drives now are the same price per gb as the 500s

i cant decide what to do :(
