July 16, 20169 yr I see Patches has a GSD. Thought I would start a thread with pics. Here's mine. His name is Ulee (short for Ulysses - hardly anyone gets that)> He's a great dog, but not near as smart as my old dog, Flint, RIP (who I didn't post pictures of). Some young, some older.
July 17, 20169 yr Very Nice. Great companions. Loyal and protective. I love his colors. 2  's up He looks like a King Shepard. Mine is 150lbs. How much does your boy weigh? Mine loves the outside rather than indoors. He also needs to carry something around. Like a used Harley tire.
July 17, 20169 yr Author His mother is a long hair GSD and his father is a slightly shorter than that standard length fur GSD. Both have direct West German show dog bloodlines. He's simply a plush GSD. He hasn't been weighed for sometime, but I would estimate his weight to be in the upper 80's. 150 is pretty big.
July 17, 20169 yr http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160717/498f61a10623e4e2a868abc301a813ba.jpg This was my old German Shepherd Collie her name was Morgan. Best dog I've ever had, very obedient, trained to go to the bathroom in our ditch and loved to play with kids. She unfortunately had nerve damage in her spine and could not walk well and we had to put her down. Haven't had another dog after her, too sad
July 17, 20169 yr I know GSD are known to get hip dysplasia My shep is almost 11yrs old and is having a painful and hard time standing up from laying down long. I am sad to say that I may have to put him down sometime in the future. I think people who don't put their animal down when they are suffering from this or any uncomfortable issue are selfish and cruel towards their pet. I certainly won't feed him pills/meds to prolong his discomfort. He has been a very good friend as well as guard for our family and property. He is okay for now, but if he shows signs of crippling. Well, I'll do what's best for him.
July 18, 20169 yr I had a GS/Husky. Awesome dog. Passed away from Histiocytic Sarcoma. It was tragic. I miss him dearly. Ended up getting a Malamute a few weeks later out of grief. Great dog as well, but no vacuum on the planet can deal with the hair. 97lb. puppy as times. Also have a Black Lab / Jack Russell mix as the "middle child".
July 18, 20169 yr Author My older dog's hips when out when he turned 12. His name was Flint. At first it wasn't too bad and then it got worse. The meds helped and he was generally happy, but last Thanksgiving I had to put him down. He was an extremely smart dog, but there's no way to explain how smart he was unless you knew him. I guess it's kind of like explaining a dream to someone - the details aren't as fantastic as you remember them. He knew how to ask for his pills when his hips started to hurt and I'll leave it at that. Great dog. Tough as an axe handle. Never saw him back down. His face was very expressive. He knew what I was thinking and I knew what he was thinking. Ulee is a cool dog, but he's no Flint, sadly. Flint is a lab/GSD(?) mix. Attached is a video of Flint shortly after getting Ulee as a puppy. He's chewing on a toy that the breeder gave me, saying it was Ulee's favorite. The first thing Flint did was take it away form Ulee. Watch as Flint's eyebrow and upper lip as Ulee walks next to Flint.
July 29, 20169 yr Author Chomp! So, I'm watching Ulee's sister, Kona, this week. She's a cutie and a sweetie. She has a moderate-high drive, so she's always on the move, but she minds what I say. She belongs to the breeders (she was a give back from the woman who bought her because she couldn't keep up with her and the kids). The breeders want me to take her because they say 3 GSD's is too much. Not sure what I'll do. I don't want another dog at this time, but she's a wonderful little girl and I would hate for her to go to some unknown family. Ulee is on the bed and Kona is on the deck.
