Not really sure if I'm allowed to discuss this but-

I'm havin a problem with most of the torrents that I try to download using my bittorent programs.

I'll actually download the torrent fine, but when I open it using my bittorent program, I'll get this error right away:

"Error (Port 6881 is blacklisted.)"

I actually just finished downloading Flatout and Brothers in Arms perfectly yesterday, tho.

I was thinking that maybe the site was just blocked by the program? Tho that seems a little weird..

Any help? :\

Certain ports get banned by certain servers hosting torrent files. I forget why, something like too much traffic or something. 6881 is one of the default ports for torrents, so it gets used a lot.

Somewhere in the settings for your client there should be an option to change the range of ports that your client uses. You'll just have to change the range to some place where the ports aren't blacklisted. The place where you got that torrent should say which ports they allow somewhere on their site.

Also the port range only needs to be as large as how many torrents you use simultaneously. Like if you only download 6 things at once at the most then you only need to have a range of about 6 ports. Having open ports is just a kind of security issue. So the less ports you use the safer. If you don't care about security you could just set the range to ports 6881 - 8000 and almost be guaranteed to be allowed to download, but whatever.

*waits for ripper to thank boja*

Psh, all you did was help me make flatout work :p

I figured this one out all by myself :p

You can change the port in the options. Also if you have trouble make sure your router has the port open.

Oh and one more question:

Do different ports have different download speeds?

Wow..

Watching The Ring 2 at night alone is NOT a very good idea :[

Somebody hold me :\

actually I didnt notice what he was downloading. Do not refer to anything or the title of anything you are downloading. I just assumed he was downloading something legal like one of our files that we have been releasing on torrent.

I have removed the picture and references to such illegal activity. If you are doing something like that WE DO NOT want to know.

If you have technical questions about legal program like torrent apps we will help you there. :peace:

BTW try ABC bittorrent...
