Are Sierra and Valve attempting to shut out dial-up users?

Yo!

Hope you all have a great and blessed holiday season this year. I wanted to drop you all a line and let you know about an article I recently posted on my clan web site on the 'News!' page. The article concerns Valve, Sierra, and Steam. I would appreciate some of you FA/HL veterans reading it and letting me know if I am perhaps onto something or just plain crazy. The subject is a bit long for the forums here. Drop me a line from the 'Email Spyder' links on one of the site pages...I can't remember which one. The article is posting dated 12/18/03, and can be reached quickly at this link: http://www.reapthewhirlwind.org/news.html

Again, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. God speed to you and yours.

I agree with that.Steam is a blind attempt to make something better that did not need to be.This last update is absolutely straining my system. My system cannot get much faster except for a $400 videocard.I have Comcast Cable at 3mbps. It was just upgraded the other day.I have probably the best equipment out there and if my game suffers then other people must be really struggling.Steam is really pissing me off to the point that I and second guessing why are we supporting Valve anymore.Everything they do gputs grief into our gaming experience. This is strictely a FA point of view.I have not played DOD or CS to see what is happening to them.

hmm, I never thought of it like that.Dial-Up users are getting the boot's end of the deal. And it's amazing cause i don't see many complaints about dial-up users and the large steam updates. They must've gotten used to the long wait times.Start the update, turn off your monitor, and sleep is what I say. It's not like the server won't be there tomorrow

I haven't seen that much of an effect on either my ping or FPS

in fact I've seen better

the thing is, the large updates are what deter others

As for me being on dialup

right now im stuck with using my old P3 800 with 256 megs of ram, and steam well its not pleasent to say the least. normal halflife and firearms ran just fine then steam came along and my system went into spazm.

i know what you mean, i have the same computer specs as you and my comp is really struggling. so now i have to beg my dad to let me use his comp every once and a while if i want play... :p
