  1. Just wondered if any of you considered PlanetSide. I moved there after playing WWII Online for a short while and found it to be a bit much frustration in regards to game bugs they still haven't worked out. PlanetSide is like Firearms in that you must capture territory. It provides the FPS enthusiast with plenty of that, while also giving you the opportunity to drive ground and air vehicles. The game play is totally oriented to teamwork, team strategy, etc. The only thing that may scare some of you away is: it's $12/month to play. That may seem like allot to pay to play a game online when you can play BF/HL for free once you've purchased the retail game, but consider this: I've been playing PlanetSide for 6 months now and haven't come across one single cheater - not one! There is only one game 'exploit' known of at this point, which is such a minor issue, it 'could' go unfixed and not be much of a problem. But they are going to fix it. It's at least worth a try. They give you a 7-day trial period to see if you like it. If you do decide to try it, make sure you look me up. The learning curve coming hot out of the BF and/or HL series of games/mods is steep, and you learn much faster once you're in an Outfit. Just look for me (I'm known as "DeathCow" in there) on the Markov or Emerald game servers. I'll get you pointed in the right direction. Just thought TA might consider PlanetSide. Be well. <S>-DeathCow(AKA: Spyder[DI]F/CEO)
  2. I have two OEM retail sets of Half-Life packs if anyone is interested in buying them. All CD's are OEM retail of Half-Life, HL:Opposing Force, Team Fortress Classic, and Counter-Strike. One of the two also has, as a bonus thrown in by me, the retail 'Blue Shift' CD. All OEM manuals are present and basicaly in 'mint' condition. I purchased a second copy in hopes of setting up a FA server for my clan. But like so many others dreams, those were crushed by the unholy offspring of Valve known as 'STEAM'. Contact me at womprat01@hotmail.com if you're interested. If I get no takers from the TA crowd, I'll be auctioning them off on EBay. Thanks. <S> -Mark Storms (Former F/CEO of 'Damage Inc.')
  3. Yes. I have tried reinstalling Half-Life, Firearms, Steam, disabling my firewall, removing my router, etc, etc. The error message is always the same..."Steam has caused an invalid page fault in module HL.EXE at..."All hope is lost here when Valve's only response to me is "...get a new PC..."
  4. Thanks for the idea. However, I have tried that and many other 'tricks' more times than I can count. Eventually (after a few hours of playing FA) I get the error message again, and can't play anything HL at all. For all you curious onlookers, here's the exact error message..."Steam caused an invalid page fault in module HL.EXE at..."Valve (after ignoring my request for assistance with this for too long) emailed me back once. Their solution was to.. "Get a new PC..." and "...apparently your PC and/or components in your PC are outdated..." If the error message said anything else, I wouldn't mind them saying that. But with an error message that specific, I would expect them to respond a little more intelligently! I'm playing on a 2.5Ghz AMD machine with 1GB ram, a 10,000RPM Raptor HD (80Gb), an ATI Radeon 9200 (256MB version), and a DSL connectionn to the net. I'm just really irked at Valve for their response to my issue. Very unprofessional, and rude.
  5. Yo. Just wanted to drop a line to all you outstanding gamers who are members of TA. Due to problems with Steam, and Valve's apathy towards helping me with a very specific problem (Steam was causing invalid page faults in my Half-Life executable), I have shut down my clan and quit all things Half-Life for good. I just wanted to say that I have enjoyed the hours of free time spent with you guys, blowing virtual heads off. As far as clans in FA (and maybe even all of Half-Life!), you TA guys are the best I've ever worked with in a game. And your server was (and I hope still is!) the BEST place to play. Clean, and as cheat-free as a HL mod can get these days. Thank you all for being so cordial and welcoming to me personally...all of you. I wish you all the best. I have moved to World War 2 Online for the time being, and have joined a squad in there called "Kelly's Heroes". There I am known as 'womprat'. While I miss the quality of modeling and detail the HL FPS offers, the squad is a very team oriented group. And while the FPS mode of WW2OL may not be as good, this group reminds me of you guys every time I log on. I wish you all the very best. And I especially wish you good luck in the future with Half-Life 2, and with Valve. I hope they don't diss you like they did me. Take care, and God bless. <S>-Womprat (Formerly 'Spyder[DI]F/CEO')
  6. Thanks guys. I'll try Paradigm's suggestion first and let you know how it worked out. <S>
  7. I am trying to get a server set up here at my home office. I have the latest version of HLDS (Half-Life Dedicated Server) installed. When I start up HLDS through Steam, there is a list of game types you want the server to be. Everything BUT Firearms shows up. And even though FA shows up on the list of 'Third Party Games' on the standard Steam menu under 'Games', it does not show up on the list once HLDS is opened. Does anyone know how to get FA in the list of HLDS mods/games? Any help would be greatly appreciated! <S> -Spyder[DI]F/CEO
  8. Yo! Hope you all have a great and blessed holiday season this year. I wanted to drop you all a line and let you know about an article I recently posted on my clan web site on the 'News!' page. The article concerns Valve, Sierra, and Steam. I would appreciate some of you FA/HL veterans reading it and letting me know if I am perhaps onto something or just plain crazy. The subject is a bit long for the forums here. Drop me a line from the 'Email Spyder' links on one of the site pages...I can't remember which one. The article is posting dated 12/18/03, and can be reached quickly at this link: http://www.reapthewhirlwind.org/news.html Again, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. God speed to you and yours. -Spyder[DI]F/CEO
