What game takes up most of your time?
Just got back into World of Warcraft. So that's my biggest right now. With Battlefield 2 being a close second and that's about all I play.

Last ditch effort
Seems PB is the issue. And I have heard that PB doesnt like some integrated ethernet controllers. Know a friend that has a PCI ethernet card you could borrow for a bit? That's my guess as to what the issue is since you can play in the non-PB servers fine. That's almost always caused by the network card not agreeing with Punkbuster. If you dont have a friend. I would consider just buying one, they're not very expensive and im pretty sure that's the problem.

Processes(how many u have?)
I'm not at my comptuer right now otherwise I'd tell you how many I have. I think it's low 30s. I'm big on not having anything running while I game. In theory ya it could. But it's a really small footprint on your system compared to the game so as long as you have a mid range or higher computer youll be fine.Same with any voice chat programs. However the voice will cause lag if you dont have broadband.

all ribbons, medals, award details here(they are here)
I found one of the earlier versions a few days after the game came out and spent a while trying to get most of the lower badges. Glad to see someone finally figured out the expert and veteran badges, but wow that's a lot of playing.

Taking it off the router shouldnt affect anything. However it does seem that it is something wrong with the internet. I was doing some searching on some BF2 sites and it seems theres a lot of people that are having similiar issues and it's related to network and punkbuster. So we're going to try updating punkbuster :o Download this file. Then move the file to your Progam Files/EA Games/Battlefield 2/pb folder. Then run the file once it's in there. Also are you using the network port built-in to the motherboard?

Corporal YES!!
Hmm, long distance sniping huh? Might have to give that a go as I picked the medic gun for my unlock as that's the only class I ever play.
-
Corporal YES!!
First, I hate you.Well not really but still. :o And why why why did you pick the medic gun? That thing is so bad you cant hit the broadside of a barn with it. No power, no accuracy. It just sucks. And ending nicely. Congrats, thats a lot of work to get to corporal.

Hmm.. Tek, youre making me run out of ideas here :o Really though, Im pretty lost as to what could be causing it. When you say it locks up what happens? Is it a black screen, game just freezes? When it does, can you Ctrl+alt+del it to get out or do you have to manually restart your computer? Is it still doing it only in multiplayer or both multi and single? Youve got me to the point that my curiousity is kicking in and wondering what is going on over there. I can keep digging out obscure attempts to fix it if you want to keep trying.

First download and intall these drivers. They're for your motherboard. Make sure to restart after installing them. But do NOT install the network management thingy. It comes up as a separate box part of the way through the installation. http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_winxp32_amd_6.66.html Then install these drivers. They are for the updated sound, hoopefully itll fix your problems. ftp://152.104.238.194/pc/ac97/alc650/wdm_a374.exe Let us know if it works.

Learning to FLy!
I like to fly planes with my joystick, but helicopters I use keyboard. A big thing is to make sure to un-invert your mouse in the BF2 control options. Default its backwards then what it should be so pulling back makes you dive forward. It's just not right :o

Have you tried both the newest nvidia drivers on their site and also the ones that come on the cd? Also, whered you get your computer. Custom built or from a company? Thisll help to see if we can get your audio working. Also, is the sound in a separate card thats in a pci slot or is it right on the motherboard? My guess is it's related to audio drivers, and we need to figure out what you have to get those updated. Also, you said you have an nForce4 motherboard. Do you have an ADM64 processor or just an AMD Athlon XP? Try this, should allow us to figure out what all you have and then you wont have to go through all those other things I asked. :o 1. Go to Start>Run and type in dxdiag 2. Let it load (loading bar in bottom left) then hit save all information. 3. Save that file wherever, just somewhere you can remember. 4. Upload that file somewhere, or just post the file here. It's gonna be long so Im not sure if it will fit in a post.

Sorry Mac and everyone else there.
Good point about being of 6 people, didnt think about that one.A separate voice chat program is just plain superior to the VoIP in BF2.

Updated drivers for everything? I mean everything. Like go through graphics, motherboard, audio(even if theyre built into the motherboard theres probably newer versions than what's included in the compiled thing for the motherboard), anything you can think of. The audio is what fixed my problems and Ive seen similar posts about the audio being a problem.

Sorry Mac and everyone else there.
Ahh, the lovely battles of Vent vs TS. That's been going on for ages. THC just uses TS and that's what Im used to so thats why I said it was a godsend. Ive used vent in the past and liked em both fairly well. However any outside program is better than the built in VoIP because you have the ability to talk to people that may not be playing with you and also to give the information of where youre playing to other people on the voice chat. Plus you can get rid of anyone who is getting annoying. I've probably just ahd bad luck in my VoIP in the game, but it just seems so restricting to me when you can run TS/Vent in the background with a lot more control. Plus I've know the guys I play with for a couple years now so we talk about things other than games which makes it a lot more interesting.

Getting back into things, [TERRAGEN PREVIEW SIG]
Indeed, better off making it too big than too small. Though I must say 3200x2400 is really big. That's twice my monitor Bet it'd look really really nice though.

Sorry Mac and everyone else there.
I've had mine enabled from the start. I play exclusively in squads, both as a member and leader and I think Ive heard people talking maybe 3 times. One was in German so that didnt accomplish anything. One was a little kid that was commander and who had one of the most annoying voices Ive heard in a while and was just talking about how his artillery strikes were leet. And the last was a squad member who was actually productive in his talking. So one of three actually being helpful, ya... Im not sold on the VoIP in games yet. Teamspeak is a godsend.

Sorry Mac and everyone else there.
Youre point about the secondary class to fall back on is definetly valid especially if your primary is a class that is good for long or short range. I guess my point was more just try to get really good at one thing rather than decently ok at everything. Though I must say that someone who plays a lot of one class can be really good.

Sorry Mac and everyone else there.
My keys to success in BF2. Without sounding full of myself, I tend to average high 90s score all most all the time I play. *Pick a class and play it- Spend your first hours playing BF2 sampling the classes and figuring out what you want to play. Then pick a class and stick with it. When you pick a class that gives you basically two guns to learn. The MEC and the US (Three if you count China, but there doesn't seem to be as many people playing the Chinese maps). When you only have to learn two weapons rather than every weapon in the game you are much more skillful with it. There's all sorts of sayings about which gun is overpowered or underpowered, but the truth is most of the guns can take out the other gun when the person using it knows how. I personally play almost solely medic, and I'm pretty nasty with an AK-101 or an M16. If I pick up another kit I'm not so hot, but when I have my weapon it's top of the leader board. *Burst Fire- Not necessarily the three round burst of the M16, just in general burst fire. When you have an automatic weapon, keep it on auto but control yourself to shooting only one or two bullets at a time. That way you have the accuracy of single-shot, but have the full auto so if someone rushes you you can unload on them. *Pick Infantry or Vehicles- Very similar to the whole picking a class part, pick either to be an infantry guy or a vehicle guy. Battlefield is such a large game that you have to specialize to become really good. A great tank driver can demolish an entire team. But a person who plays only sometimes as a tank will get the snot kicked out of him by Anti-tank guys. Same applies to pilots, a good bomber can be very decisive but someone who doesn't know how to accurately bomb will be spending more time bombing his teammates than the enemy. *Know the maps- There's really only one way to do this and that's play a lot of it. You have a decisive advantage over an opponent if you know how to get to his side and hit him where he's least expecting it. The city maps, in particular, have a lot of alleyways that take a lot of learning to really know where everything is located. If there's a grey flag and you know a faster way to it then the enemy you'll have the advantage of being in a defensive position rather than attacking. *Keep moving- If you're looking for points, you have to flag cap. The only way to do this is going from flag to flag capping them. I personally prefer the attack and defend method but if you're going for straight out points you have to cap. Even when you're defending or attacking on foot you need to keep moving. A moving target is much harder to hit than a still target no matter how good the shooter is. Well I guess that's long enough, if I think of anything else I'll post it or edit this post.

What are you ranked in Battlefield 2?
Go Die..... Well not really, that's probably the best choice. I'm just mad I picked the worst gun in the game. Only hope is theyll make it better in a patch somewhere down the line.

Sorry Mac and everyone else there.
I havent played with the TAC guys in BF2 yet, but if it's anything like their performance in CS you can expect some strategy being used. No matter how good the people youre paying with are, if you played with them enough you learn their strengths and learn to work as a team. BF2 does a great job in rewarding teamwork, and clans really help to get that teamwork going. A squad of two or three people that can work as a team can completely dominate the points of a 6 person squad full of guys that are just playing by themselves.
