I have a legitimate copy of Call of Duty 4. I just don't want to have to put the CD in it every time I want to play.

 

What're the legality and easiness of No-CD Patches?

You don't need a cd to play multiplayer, only single player.

Anyways if you wanted to stop having to insert the disc for single player you could always use a program like Virtual CD to make a copy of the cd onto your hard drive. There should be no legality issues with using any type of thing like that considering the fact that you have a legit copy of the game.
