Posted December 18, 200717 yr Yo since COD4 is giving me problems I'm exploring the idea of playing other games. How is Quake Wars (pros, cons)
December 18, 200717 yr If you played the previous quake games you will like it. There is a pretty steep learning curve, I don't really know if I like it yet since I haven't been able to play it much. One pro is that you don't need a disk in the drive to play. There's a lot to learn, figure out.

Sometimes I don't even realize I have a mission assigned to me. But it is still fun. The sniping is kinda weird, almost to easy as the hit boxes seem to change with distance, though a headshot is an insta-kill and the body usually takes 2-3. And I can't hit crap with any of the Strogg weapons.
December 18, 200717 yr i got the game played it like 3 times......pretty steep learning curve thats a understatement......nothin like i have played befor.....i would save the money for Frontlines: Fuel of War when it comes out
December 18, 200717 yr there's a few of us who play regularly. i just picked up the game about a month ago, and figured out how to play, with everyone's help, in about 4-5 hours. i think there's definitely more teamwork involved than CoD4.
December 18, 200717 yr Old Quake tactics (rocket jumping and to some extent, bunny hoping) don't work in Quake Wars. Any attempts to rocket jump will only blow yourself to pieces. Bunny hoping is not as effective as in the previous Quake games. You don't really need to have previous experiences in Quake because the gameplay is different.
December 19, 200717 yr You have a gun you shoot. No learning curve there. Shadow or any of us in the channel can help when we're around. I made my keyboard just like in BF2 or BF2142 so that I wouldn't have to learn anything new. It does cause me to miss out on the leaning and other stuff, oh well. I like it. It totally took my mind off of TF2 and BF2.
December 19, 200717 yr the "unrealism" seems to turn some folks away and theres alot more "run n gun" than "crouch and shoot". steep learning curve... alot of teamwork involved...if u have a crappy team, you're going to lose! thats about all the cons i can think of. i wont list the pros as there are tons of things i enjoy about this game! do NOT judge the game by its demo! theres lots more to it!
February 26, 200817 yr I think it's meh mostly due to the random sound cutting out in the game. It seems like I'm the only person with this problem, but I'll do a search and if no luck, i'll make a thread for help. lol If you want to buy it, I'll sell you mine for 20 w/o shipping. Don't think you'll have a problem with the key. Dont think I did any register stuff with it.

Dont think I did any register stuff with it. -This, by the way, I have not heard of from ANYONE playing QW. -I am not sure what a STEEP learning curve is, but after about 1 hour of constant gaming I am more that comfortable with it...keep track of your missions and work with the people assigned that mission and all will be well. As for ranking up and unlockables...ranks are just prestige...and unlockables work in a fantastic way. Each "campaign" is a set of 3 multilayer maps with primary and many secondary objectives. During a campaign you unlock up to 4 'skills/items' from 4 categories. What you have unlocked is based on how you play and what you use the most. At the end of the campaign everyone starts over again. Up side: No UBER people with all the unlocks owning everyone just starting out. Down side: Less of a sense of accomplishment for people that just like their shines. CoD4, while a good game is just a meathead, run 'n gun...where QW is more about teamwork and large maps but the shooting feels secondary (thought you do it alot)
February 27, 200817 yr i bought quake wars thinking it was going to be good. I found it boring and didn't like the characters movements while playing. I found quake games more fun in sp mode.
