There are various predictions on just how severe the eruption would be. Most say that if it goes, the death count will be easily in the millions as a result of the earthquakes only, excluding the ashfall. The explosion itself would cause major catastrophe within one thousand kilometres, and the ashfall would cover most of our crops, causing very serious food shortages. You can read about the Caldera here. http://pubs.usgs.gov/fs/2005/3024/ Bottom line is that the ashfall will go as far west as the Pacific coast (from Washington to Calfornia) to the Midwest (from Minnesota to Texas). That's completely unhealthy to breathe, first off, and a nuclear winter would easily wreak havoc on crops, livestock, etc. Granted, the whole world would feel the effects of the nuclear winter, they would not come near to the catastrophe we would here. On the plus side, it's not showing signs of erupting any time too soon.
