I want to know what happens and what the deal is. The wife won't go see it with me and since I only watch movies alone when we've had a fight. Well you see my prob, I'm not in the mood to pick a fight so SPOIL it for me, please.

A big ugly monster attacks New York. People scream. Stuff happens. People die. Monster leaves New York, goes back to where it came from so there can be a sequel.

Happy now, Mr Spoiley-pants?

NO. The only thing spoiled here is your sportyness. You're goofy, what's the real scoop?

I haven't seen it, but I'm willing to bet that is the basic plot.

My wife won't watch it either, so I will wait until it's on DVD

EDIT: Since some of us know how to use google, I looked up the spoilers and guess what, I am pretty stinkin' close :(

The real plot is this..

A guy called tilgado had a fight with his wife over watching a movie..

his wife got pissed at him and went to NY.. the movie begins..

I just came back from it, amazing movie. I'd go watch it -- no spoilers can really describe how awesome it was.

:( OMG, that is hilarious. I won't tell the wife you said that though.

:D  :D :( :) -That movie is all kinds of suck. Think Blair-Witch meets godzilla...

NOT WORTH SEEING!!!

:) :D :) :D :)-wait until some fool you know buys it on DVD and pop it in to watch the first five minutes then melt it into slag.

:) :D :) :D :D-The monster is some big lizzard thing. Two oversized arms draging its torso/tail around...NOTHING special.

IT IS FAIL!!!

Did we even see the same movie Freefall? Seriously, I saw it today and it is easily one of the best movies I have seen in years...

Absolutely incredible. It wasn't filmed with some handheld camera, so it's far better in that respect than the Blair Witch Project, which, as a movie, can't even be compared to Cloverfield. The plot, although simple, was engaging as well as the action and special effects. As unrealistic as having a monster attack New York is, the reaction of the people and military in the movie seem about as real as it can get.

Overall, 5 stars.

Poor acting... The camera dude kind of ruined the movie for me. Everyone else did a decent job, but he just totally sucked ass. Listening to him whine and ask a thousand questions took me out of the movie because it made it seem a little fake. He seemed fake as well. Also, the other thing that was kind of "what the hell" is when they did the flash back in the camera. Granted they wanted to show that they were taping over another tape to make it seem like it "actually" happened. Though, once it again, it took away from the movie. Took you out of the action/little suspense. The military did a decent job untill the end of the movie where the chopper pilot decided to fly right next to the monster and where all the bombs were falling. Everything would have been ok if he would have flown the other direction or put a little more distance between them.

I don't want to be mean but what kind of camera was he holding if it wasn't a "handheld camera"?

As a disclaimer by the theater. If you get motion sickness easily it isn't a movie for you to watch.

I would say 3-3.5 out 5 stars. It wasn't a horrible movie. Just wasn't a great movie either. I don't feel the need that I want to see it again right away like you do with others.

shot on HVX200 in 720p DVCPROHD + HDCAM SR 1920x1080 444 for VFX plates (can't remember if it was Genesis or 950)

And apparently during one of those flashbacks, while they are on the ferris whelel at the end, if you loook in the backround you see something fall in the wate. JJ Abrams seems to enjoy making people think and pay attention. I loved the movie, as it did a great job at making you feel you were there with them.

:( -I suppose I can appreciate the attempt at something different...though I do feel bad for those that get motion sick easy...oi. I still maintain its best quality is its flammability and stand by my claim of it failing as a real movie, but I also do not think much of drama/"reality"/teenish shows either...so it just had NOTHING I liked in it.

I loved the person holding the camera. To me it seemed just about as real as it was going to get with the characters and their personalities.

He wasn't a bad actor at all. In fact, there wasn't a single moment of bad acting. You didn't like a character, but that doesn't mean the character wasn't poorly acted. Everyone probably knows someone like that.

The "flashbacks" were part of the backstory (obviously) but were also meant to show a more human side, to make the connection between the main character and Beth. It also provides contrast from the grim reality they're facing.

dont watch it in the theater. it gave me a headache watching the POS chase cam bounce up and down for half the movie and looking at the ground for a quarter of it. plot? its really deep so prepare yourself. this big monster dragon thing comes and attacks new york. they cant seem to kill it so they decided to nuke it. the protagonist goes back into the city b4 the nuke goes off, finds his love of his life, tries to get outta the city. fails. dies with the nuke. end. wasnt worth my time

The real story is:

Director and Producer can't think of anything original.

They nix an idea to combine Dukes of Hazzard with Resident Evil.

Their second choice combining Brokeback Mountain with the Creature from the Black Lagoon also gets the ax.

Then they decide on Cloverfield a coming-of-age drama about a young monster trying to make it happen in the big city only to be rebuffed and to return to it's hometown and become a farmer.

In the sequel Jan Brady, played by Phxtravis, will be introduced as a possible love interest.

good to know I am still in your thoughts...

the camera certainly wasn't realistic!!!!

there were so many occasions when i wanted the camera to turn and look somewhere else but instead he gets stupid!

theres a monster stomping things, but he points the camera at a soldier to examine his posture as he fires his rpg, then at a badass tank rolling by, and then at his friends whom i believe were telling him to point his camera at the monster but instead he keeps screaming "what???".

and on top of the roof when the monster showed up, by the speed and direction he was running, i was like "that monster is sooo gona ram into ur building". instead the only thing the camera does is "o cool a monster", takes a glimpse then continues climbing like the monster is just a passerby.

i could certainly feel the fear of having this incredibly cool monster attacking. but the camera work just ruined it for me. by the end of the movie, all that excessive bobbing, spinning, and unneccessry zooming made me feel sick.

the movies a great idea! very entertaining! but sad to say, it was a pain for me to watch.

good to know I am still in your thoughts...

Oh Jan, you may be the middle child, but you're still special.
