Posted March 6, 200817 yr Can anyone recommend a good set of buds? I lost the buds that came with my Zen Vision W. I'm not too sad about it cause they sounded very flat anyway. I'm looking for some canal fitting buds because the old ones kept falling out of my ears. From what I understand they also have a better passive noice-cancelling feature. A very good frequency response is a must, on the low side at least. I was looking at some Senheiser CX300B's but I know there are so many more out there. Preferably none that have the in-line filter/power gizmo hanging on the cord.
March 6, 200817 yr some might be better but I love mine from target. http://www.target.com/Philips-Surround-Sound-Black-Earbuds/dp/B0001OY2VS/sr=1-1/qid=1204833142/ref=sr_1_1/602-4181859-5954219?ie=UTF8&rh=k%3Aphillips%20earbuds&page=1 hope this helps!
March 6, 200817 yr I like the cheap $40 Sony ones that you can find at any Bestbuy. If you want break the bank Shure, Etymotic, Bose, have some options, some costing as much as $800. http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-6468_7-5117674-1.html http://www.cnet.com/topic-reviews/earphone.html http://mp3.com.com/topic/earbud/earphone.html
March 6, 200817 yr Author Thanks for the suggestions. Price is definitely a factor. Great find. I'm leaning a little toward the Sony Fontopia MDR-EX51LP now. They all have the specs I'm looking for, but I'm not too sure about the behind-the-neck design of the rest (one wire side longer than the other). I've had some of those in the past and they always tickle my cheek (because I use them towards my chest). Now to find the best price...... Also maybe some with a more reliable cable. Seems that a cheap wire is common throughout the industry.

Stay away from sony.. if you REALLY want some cash spent on them, look for entymotic research ones http://www.etymotic.com/?crcat=ppc&crsource=google&crkw=magnificentmusic MASSIVELY expensive, but sound about as good as you will ever get ever..

Sennheiser CX300 range sounds wildly better.. softer base, nicer treble, Sony tends to be mainstream, for whatever you will pay for the CX's you will not be dissapointed.. i promise you that, i use these religiously, and they sound *almost as good* as my Grado SR325s when i listen to music on my HiFi
March 6, 200817 yr Matador, I have a pair of those Sony's now. They are great. They block out sound very nicely. I have had them for around 2 years I think, and haven't really had any complaints. I kinda like the behind the neck design because you can just have them hanging from your neck when you arent using em or whatever. They sound very good to me and are comfy in the ears, sometimes I feel like they arent even in there.
March 6, 200817 yr if u feel rich, the quality on the bose is amazing! but they cost over a $100 bucks just for earphones... and i've tried the skullcandy full metal jackets, they are HORRIBLE! it isn't noise reducing, its like...earplugs. the moment u put them on, u can't hear ANYTHING from the outside world. i find that incredibly dangerous.
March 7, 200817 yr Author I kinda want to stay in the $40-50 range. I stopped by the store today and bought some Phillips buds like the ones Eskimo posted. These buds are not bad at all for $20. The lows were nice but the highs are not quite the best. The guy at the counter reminded me that I could bring them back if I wasn't satisfied. So I'll probably keep shopping around just to compare apples. The only complaint that I have against the Phillips is that the "carrying case" was a small piece of plastic that doesn't carry much. I really enjoy great sound so I'm very interested about what other buds offer. I'll keep you all posted. The CX300s may be next, just to scratch that itch.
March 7, 200817 yr they're 15 at walmart just found out tonight plau you may try skullcandy's i hear there good... but glad i was able to help

Entymotic research though... they are simply amazing.. even i couldnt tell the difference between them, and a pair of Grado RS1s (the $3000+ range that grado offer) on a $30k Absolute sounds setup at the last hifi show in london that i went to..

March 7, 200817 yr you want to be spending the best part of that money you might as well spend it on something worthwhile i have their SR325 series.. not as expensive, but still just as sublime..
May 8, 200817 yr Author Well the second pair of buds that I bought have now been tossed in the trash. Not because they didn't sound good, but because my wife ran over them in the driveway (of course I dropped them getting out of my car). You can laugh now. So I couldn't resist. I bought some Motorola HT820's. I know they're the older model but TigerDirect HAD them for $40. I think I bought the last pair because they are now out of stock. Needless to say, they are SWEET!!! Comfortable, good freq response, and WIRELESS. They also have a wired connection for my Zen. Perfect. Now, if I can just keep them off of the street, I suspect I'll be keeping these for a while.
