<Frisky Dingo> Age of Conan guild.

For all of you guys who are going to be trying Age of Conan (check out statecop's thread about it) and want to PvP you should join the guild I'll be creating when the game starts.

I don't have much about it yet, but I plan on at least trying to get a basic website/forums for the guild. It's going to be on a PvP server that I will announce whenever they announce what servers will be up on launch.

anyways, post if you think you'll be joining the game -- I'm trying to get as many good PvPers as I can. I already have Jairyn and probably can grab SneakyArab as well for it, and I have a few other people from other places that are willing to join as well.

edit:

We will be playing on the Tyranny (PvP) U.S server

Hey hey Nadril, back the bread basket up my friend. Idk if Im even getting the game yet! Im still a WoW addict!

I will be waiting on a funness report shortly.

I tried the open beta. It has a lot of potential, but the game was very unstable. At least for me.

My PC is pretty powerful. Load times varied from near instant to over a minute, frequent crashing, and some graphical errors were also prevalent.

Are these issues close to being resolved in the closed beta?

We have heard that the Fileplanet Beta client is actually an old client and won't be the one used on release. Can you speak to that?

Funcom:

It for sure won?t be the one we have on release! I mean, 150 experienced MMO developers working crunch are able to polish, a lot;) We are making some great updates and fixes based on the lessons learned, lessons we would not have received without the stress we put our servers and systems under. I must stress that it was, and is, beta, and the verdict should come for our launch version, not the version three weeks before.

And yes, I have seen the same rumors that it?s old, but it?s not entirely true. We tried to include the best we had on a stable approach, but in our eagerness to please we wanted to get a few additional fixes out (hence we pushed the launch back a couple of hours). In order to reach the May 1st date some of those fixes led to unwanted side-effects which weren?t discovered in time. For some, it got a bit rockier than we wanted. We are running an extensive survey now, and from the first few hundred replies (which should be statistically correct), it seems that most people are actually having tons of fun AND good performance. We are humble about it though, and admit that things could have gone smoother, but the experience some people have had now has helped us to improve for launch, which is what really matters.

It?s also clear that those who are in our Closed Beta have had a more stable and better experience because of the reasons mentioned in this interview, but rest assured we are aware what caused this and have some really nice updates for you come launch :D

Age of Conan is no where like everquest.

In fact, WAR is much more like EQ/WoW....

I dont know what the game play is like but from watching little videos on the in-game stuff its looking like EQ, the way the Chars looks and stuff but idk, Warhammer is more like WoW which isnt bad buts its more PvP based and looks alot better

Age of Conan is incredibly PvP based. Open PvP servers, PvP warfare sieges (including building your own towns in which others can lay waste to). Honestly, AoC's PvP is much more appealing than WARs, which from what I've read is going to be pretty...boring.

Anyways Age of Conan plays nothing like WoW/EQ. In Wow and Everquest you attack by hitting little hotkeys for your skills. You do the same thing in WAR.

In age of conan you will activate a combo you want and then actually have to perform that said combo. (I.E 1 = left atk 2 = middle atk 3= right atk) so you might activate a combo that is "left+right+left" so you hit it, than hit 1-3-1. If you screw up and hit 1-2 it won't work and the CD will be used up.

It may sound simple at first but the combat is so so so much more engaging.

I personally find the combat and pvp more attractive than the mechanics of other MMOs that I have seen and played. I know there are levels in the game, but it seems to be more skill-based than other MMOs. I received my early access information today so I will be in-game as soon as they allow me.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone compliment WoW for its PvP attributes. In fact most people seem to think PvP in WoW has gotten progressively worse as the developers tried to build it up.

The arena system has failed in just about every way imaginable. They made the pinnacle of PvP revolve around small scale battles which are impossible to balance(to paraphrase Blizzard).

I could go on but I'll just stop and say Blizzard's biggest mistake, in both PvE and PvP, was reducing the number of players that partake in any given battle. It just magnifies all the little imbalances and creates more of the "cookie cutter" setups that stagnate the game.

I think the primary problem with PvP in WoW are the mechanics and properties of the game. Skill is only important if players are comparable in level and equipment. It does not matter what strategies I employ if the game determines I am unable to hit someone. In the later stages of character development, you cannot compete unless you have the best equipment and this can be difficult for people that do not have the time to acquire it. On PvP servers, I always refrained from killing or attacking characters that were 6+ levels below me because I understood that it would be no challenge. It is true that I was able to kill characters that were up to 10 levels higher than me in the early to mid-game, but this was only posssible because the people had absolutely no idea what to do in PvP situations. I am not sure that AoC will be significantly different; however, the mechanics seem to emphasize skill and strategy more than a game like WoW.
Also, I just started downloading my game client through the early access program set to begin on May 17th! This monster is almost 14Gb and my speeds are only so-so at the moment. Is anyone else going the early access route?

I played the beta (fileplanet) and while an older verison it had a TON of bugs. I too have a beefy system (Intel Quad core Q6600 w/ 8800GTX). The load times are stupid long...lots of crashes. The game play was ok...not crazy about the quest log system..at all.

I think I am going to atleast wait for the release and take a look at it maybe 1 month later. As for now I am still mostly waiting for Warhammer.

This game stands to watch though....I am just not sure how it will do.

Read the article I posted state, most players weren't having that problem. Like I was in the PvP beta and it ran really damn smooth for being a beta.

I would really recommend you give it a try on release.

And WoW's PvP does fail badly, it's just so boring.

The Warhammer beta was pretty dissapointing tbh =/ (but then again not much options open yet)

Havent played the AoC beta and i am going to wait for quite some time before i make a decission. But i must admit it looks really prommising. And no 12 year olds! (AoC is +18)

So yay on that

On an other note they are making a Warhammer 40k MMORPG :D

Alright, got server info this morning so I made a decission on what server to host the guild.

The guild will be playing on the Tyranny U.S (PvP) server. Anyone from the armory is welcome to join, as is friends.

Really though, I want to get people who are big into PvP. Chances are we will be outnumbered in a lot of PvP situations until we build up a reputation, so we need all of the top notch PvPers we can get.

Unless someone took it I should be Cyrant.

Message me in game about an invite.

Almost 15 right now, should be 20 soon-ish and then I can make the guild.

The game is incredible so far, so ****ing smooth. No lag at all even on my machine.

Does AoC have a buddy trial type thing? I probably would have bought it today, but real life is interfering

It does from what I know.

heard that game has no substance :/

-G

No substance in what? Some players were complaining PvP had no meaning but thats all I heard.

The game is so much better than WoW, so much more engaging.
