May 13, 200817 yr For all those who don't know what SDMC means (everybody loves acronyms!!! ), it stands for Squad Designated Marksmanship Course. It is taught by the National Guard Marksman Training Unit (NGMTU), and is, i think, the only unit that can give Form 1059 for the actual course. It's a Expert Rifle Marksmanship course is a 2-week class that is taught at Ft. Robinson in Arkansas in Little Rock. Some of the things you are taught there is shooting with a regular M16A4 hitting targets between 100 and 600 meters with iron sight and with a 4X zoom ACOG. For anyone who shoots, its hard to keep a steady shot out to 300 meters and hit it consistently. We were taught how to shoot prone, keeling, and standing; although we only qualified in the prone. Zeroed our weapons at 100 yards though. Meters and yards can get very confusing to some. the SDM is also taught the different ballistics of 5.56mm ammo, affects of weather and gravity on the bullets, wind conditions, bullet trace, and watching mirage. :warning:COD4 is infamous for a somewhat inaccurate ACOG:warning:...which can be true when shooting something closer than 50 meters. The Advanced Combat Optic Gunsight, for those who didn't know exactly what it meant, isn't meant for CQC. Its moves just as much in real life as it does in the game and then some more when fatigued. The Squad Designated Marksman is a rifleman, and part of the squad. He is not a sniper nor does he work as an individual. That is the SDM's primary mission. The SDM's secondary mission is to be able to effectively place fire on an opponent that is 100 meters to 600 meters out and take him down. If their are any thoughts or questions on the operations of a Squad Designated Marksman, please feel free to do so. That's where i've been the last two weeks.
May 13, 200817 yr Sounds like some "Hardcore" training Des. Thanks for the insight. I'm sure you had fun doing it!!
May 13, 200817 yr Author I signed up for a shooting competition in my area; hopefully i do good. I learned a lot and it should help me
May 13, 200817 yr It's kinda of funny how people think that marksmen use sniper rifles. While some do they are mostly semi-auto like the m14 with mid range/ACOG scopes. The only time you need a sniper is if you are engaging targets well over 500m and need precision (OSOK).
May 14, 200817 yr I suck at shooting the m16 my best qual so far is 30 out of 40 lol pathetic i know but i am a helicopter mech so ill never shoot my rifle. The whole time i was in afghanistan I didnt shoot my weapon once.
May 14, 200817 yr Author I suck at shooting the m16 my best qual so far is 30 out of 40 lol Thats good enough. 300 meters used to look like a small target to me, now its huge. I also learned how to use the windage & elevation knobs on the iron sights too.
