Better pings...program

Featured Replies

I am normally anti any program that claims to make your ping aka latency better. I was playing WoW the other day and some guy was talking about it and several others had tried it with good results so I give it a try!

I cut my latecy WAY down. In some cities I had cut my ping from 350ms to 150ms. On the BG servers I went from 250ms to 130. It changes the way your system handles packets.

Let me say a few things here:

- I have ONLY tested it with WoW (it worked GREAT for me!)

- IF you have vista you need to do more steps (READ BEFORE YOU INSTALL) This is your warning!

- If you have XP it is as easy as installing then click apply - restart your pc

If any of you want to try it I suggest making a restore point and backing up the reg files before the install. If you have a FPS

server you play on try it and report back if it helps FPS also.

This is what the maker of the program says about it:

Reduces your latency / gives better ping times in World of Warcraft (and other Multiplayer Games) by optimizing network registry settings (Windows default setting are intentionally causing delays on small packets and ACKs). The tool ist based on following articles: english: http://www.mmo-champion.com/index.php?topic=3031.0 http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=3271071466&sid=1&pageNo=1 http://developers.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=174457&threshold=1&commentsort=0&mode=thread&cid=14515105 http://mattgadient.com/2007/12/13/kb935458-v2-vista-hotfix-for-tcpackfrequency/ http://elitistjerks.com/f15/t17761-server_locations_latency_australia/p8/ german: http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=1958327347&sid=3 Faster Ping optimizes network registry settings in order to turn off ACK delays and small packet delays. Windows intentionally delays small packets and waits until more data can be sent, which is a good idea for non-realtime applications. But in Multiplayer and MMO games the focus is on sending all packets (like move_left, cast_spell, ...) immediately to the server, even if they are only 1 byte in size. Faster Ping turns off these network delays which improves latency and ping times significantly. You must have Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installed (XP with Service Pack and Vista already have it) to run this application. unzip and click setup.exe

Eh... I don't trust a program to fiddle with my registry. Sounds like a nice program if it works, though.

I am with you 100% and normally I feel the same. Thats why I do a restore point prior to the install and save a copy of my reg. I can say without a doubt it made my ping go WAY down on WoW.

thanks for all the info looks like you did some home work

Does this look like the face of someone that does not do their homework?
installed it, seems to work. no problems as of yet. have multiple restore points and other backups just incase. good find btw.

W9 get into the CoD4 server and see what it does for ya.

Need more feedback. I would like to try it, see if it can lower my awesome pings.

One of the guys we play with from Australia said it took him down from 400+ ms to just under 250ms-300ms. Again that is WoW which really is not that badwidth hungry. I am not sure how it would do on and FPS like BF2142. Those BF games have always used a lot more bandwidth than other games. I am interested to try it this afternoon if I have time though.

installed, and it fubar'ed my PB. sorry bud, deffo not for me. would be nice if it worked tho lol.

You sure it wasnt just PB acting crazy like it does from time to time? I just got home and played without any problems. My ping seems lower to some of the server but I dont play enough on them to say for sure. I didnt have any PB problems at all.

You may want to update your PB manually or just try it again later. I have been kicked by PB before installing this for no reason. It is usually from PB not being able to contact its servers for some reason or another. It usually clears up after a few hours. I almost bet that is the problem with your PB.

negative. was just the fasterping thing. that was the only difference. it actually prevented my punkbusterB.exe from starting, and handshaking. had to use a restore point to fix the prob, and yes i did update pb both before and after. as soon as i restored there were no issues what so ever. please note i only tried this with CoD4, so it MAY work with other games, but cod4 is deffo a neg.

Strange...COD4 was the game I test it on....No problems at all. Did you restart and do you have XP with SP2 and .Net 2.0+ ?

I am guessing the program is just adjusting the ACK requests and turning off that algorithm? Makes sense that is works. There are a lot of old settings that were designed for slower connections. (Like the pipelining request with browsers)

If it lowers ping in COD4 then I might try it. I left WOW, but if I ever got back into it I would defiantly do this.

I usually have a 50 ping to the server in COD4 and 30 in the BF series. I'm near Dallas with the fiber so I'm not gonna fart around with extras. But I can see where many others like Danbaron might benefit. Or maybe that's just his excuse everytime I split his wig  . Great info nonetheless State.

LOL i never come up with excuses, it's my ping i am proud of it, i own it:p

2142 destroys my latency. The school also has terrible packet transfer protocols for gaming. If 50%+ of the school is on the internet (i.e. any time other than 12pm or later) I usually get 200-600 ping, unless it's an exceptionally lucky day or they're doing maintenance.

With WoW I get 85-180ms on average during the same times, so I don't know what the deal is.

If anyone can check if this works for 2142, that would be fantastic.

What server do you play on in WoW? I'm starting up a character in Spirestone and will be playing in August September if you want to make an alt there.

I play on Dragonmaw (Horde). I have not tested it with 2142 but it wouldnt do much good as I dont play enough on one server to know what I would have gotten pre-install.
well tried the program with 2142 and it made no change to my ping, i joined our city maps server, still same ping of 120, tried joining other servers but same thing i had no difference
