I'd love to hear from some other BF2142 players what they do to generally stay alive during a round. I've started playing a lot again, but I'm getting tired of dying =) Tips?
play with griiim anibis gamb and gringo. you'll get revived all the time. assault is a pretty good class, you can run around healing yourself if you get hurt, and can stay back shooting rockets.
Don't attack your opponent head on unless you are confident you can take them down. Set up ambush points if you know you are being followed. Stick with assault and stick with squad. Choose your weapons wisely use a shotgun or shotgun attachment for CQB. Use a sniper rifle or heavy assault rifle for larger maps.

i'm used to running as distraction, or just running in head on to scare the crap outta em, so i'm used to dying. but ghosting around in game is pretty easy once used to it, even without cloaking.

basically keep your head down, every map has a few nooks and cranny's that are good for hiding as squads pass bye. if you play recon enough you know that being seen will mostlikely be the last mistake you make. play it cautious but keep in mind that if you're too cautious its just as bad as not being cautious at all.

another good thing is to try to never do the same thing too often. keep em guessing

also use the audio to your advantage. if you've got a good sound card and sound system you can usually determine enemy positions and movement without exposing yourself at all :p even with just a basic stereo headset, its possible to get used to the sound patterns such as volume pitch and length to base your decisions on how to move and when.

some good practice is to just find a server and actually try NOT to shoot anyone. just sneak around and such avoiding patrols and vehicles. of course shoot if you NEED to, but try to avoid it as much as possible. after doing that for a while you'll tend to do it naturally while playing, even while in live combat, and it does help. one minute your there giving suppressive fire, next you're gone. best way to screw with their heads.

+1 to Gadfry's comment. Squading up with diligent revivers is the number one way to go (I'm all over corpses like a necrophiliac in a graveyard...).

As for you individually, it really depends on your aim. If you feel confident with your aim, you can usually just go head to head and win. If not, the best tactic for me is to get them to miss. As obvious as this sounds, it's a little more complex than that. If they start shooting at you and don't hit very many, then they start getting heavier recoil and will miss more, which will give you a little bit extra time to drop them. The best way to do this is to zigzag, jump, or dive (as long as your not too close). The average 2142 player will empty their clip, veteran players will miss some(Diving throws me off from time to time), and exceptional players will still probably kill you (although I've gotten a leg up on better players by doing this: i.e. Treble or Fieldboy).

I would also recommend playing assault. You can shrug off any damage after each fight and get a boat load of points reviving people (as long as you're not afraid to go sprinting through grenades and massive amounts of cross fire).

zigzag works quite well dodging long range bullets.

when targets appear in front of u, my move would be stand, kneel, prone. while firing. works most of the time. zooming increases the odds.

if i see them coming around the corner on radar, i time it right, jump around the corner therefore jumping over my target. throw a little zigzag dance in there. u know exactly where they are but they have to look for u. gives me the edge most of the time.

if they're right in front of u, run through them, then run back then lie down. novices just stand there and fire spinning around looking for u. the better players will probably move around and will eventually find u on the floor, but it gives u more time for to unload ur ammo on him. might not work if the player is circling around u as he'll be moving thus harder to hit and ur just lying in 1 spot. works better at narrow smaller areas.

this isn't counterstrike! dont just stand in 1 spot and shoot. move!

Yeah, I always kneel and zoom. Most of the time I win face offs like that (except when playing some of you guys :) ), but for players who don't aim as well, that might not work.

Jumping over peoples' heads is amazing. Most players don't turn around before they die.
