Hey guys. hows everyone doin?..

Well, I dont know if anyone really even plays this game anymore lol but I'm having some trouble... :D

I was able to play last night, but today, for some reason, the game crashes to desktop whenever I start it up. I click on the icon, it begins to load up, the screen goes black and then it crashes. Xfire says that I'm playing the game when I click on it, but when it crashes, it says I stopped playing.

I've tried reinstalling, Mercury's sticky thing link(which by the way, I did not understand. So I guess technically if I didn't do it right, I didn't do it. :D ) and closing all other programs/firewalls/etc.

how do i fix this?

Hmm it may be ur graphics card is eith shot or you do not have enough memory for the card to run,it actually could be a number of things, if you have already unistalled and reinstalled the game and it still crashed, i would think it has something to do either with the vid card or your memory....Any type of error code or anything,or is it just a black screen?

it differs each time I run it.

The basic jist of it is when it's in the beginning stages of loading up, (before the intros) it will quit on me and just go right back to desktop. I played this game last night with Griiim and Gamb, I dont think it has anything to do with my hardware. Nor have I downloaded/deleted/modified anything on my computer since that night.

I went to bed being able to play, then woke up not.

thats weird but I found a topic on the ea forums on crash to desktop but I dont know if it pertains to ur situation.

Try renaming yourbattlefield 2142 folder in "my documents".

Try to set the video.con values:

http://www.tweakguides.com/BF2_7.html

Video.con

VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x960@75Hz

This setting controls your current resolution in Battlefield 2. The format is Width x Height@Refresh Rate. If you cannot start up BF2 and change the resolution from within the game, try altering it here to help you startup the game. In particular when you want to launch BF2 for the first time and the game just crashes back to desktop (See Troubleshooting Tips section), you can change the resolution from its default of 800x600@60Hz to one your monitor supports. Note however that certain resolutions are unsupported and entering them here will not work - see the Command Line section further below.

guys my hardware is fine...my computer can definitely run it.

does no one remember me back from half a year ago? sheesh.

I've played over 400 hours of this game on low/med settings..

my computer may be old. but its incredibly fast and I've kept it in really good shape. I should probably start thinking about a new one tho..

Anyway, thankyou Mercury. I'll see how this works out..

I dont understand how that worked Mercury...

I renamed my Battlefield 2142 in My Documents to 2142 and it works...

as long as it works im happy... lol :D thanks dude.

try updating ur vid card driver, it def has to do with video for some reason it is A the vid card does not have enough memory play (means it can't load up the game)...Or not enough ram, can you load up single player? If not go into ur vid card settings and check to make sure everything is right...personally myself i have had a buddy that had the same problem same thing as you are describing...let me know if any of the above work for ya....Check and see to make sure you have all the latest drivers for ur comp, and firmware for ur dvd/cd player

I heard its a bug with EA's servers.

Its happening in BF2 as well, servers all over are just randomly crashing, and sending all of the connected players straight to their desktops.

EA is definitely responsible for it, but under what intentions or the actual cause of it all, is anyone's guess.

It all started about a week prior to BF:BC going gold, and the announcement of a possible BF2 patch.

Most of the people think its 1 of 2 things happening.

1. a new crash exploit that hackers are using to shutdown the BF2 and BF2142 servers, since it doesn't happen to every server at the exact same time.

2. EA is gearing up its servers to support BF:BC and its some how causing their BF2, and BF2142 servers to drop the Stats link and crash, or soemthing along those lines.

Chances are, it has nothing to do with your PC or drivers.

After renaming the folder the game rebuilt its config files on the next launch. You now have a vanilla profile for your game. I believe you can copy some of your old files back into the new folder and figure out which one is bad. Also you can save your key binds.
