Web Hosting question (Gator!)

Featured Replies

Hey really this goes to everyone, but I know you deal with it Gator. A friend of mine wants me to make a website for a small hunting club that he is in. I told him I might, but that we would have to get hosting and everything, which I know nothing about. Im just looking for some suggestions about what I should do. IDK who to get to host, or how much space I will need, or good prices.

Right now I dont think that there will be anything major on the site... mostly just text and once they get some, hunting pictures. I assume videos can just be linked from YouTube if needed.

And once (if) I get the site running, what do I have to do in the way of maintenance and upkeep?

How much space and bandwidth do you think you will need? If it's a relatively small site then you probably won't have many files unless you are sharing bigger files with the rest of the club. Same goes for bandwidth, just serving up text and images won't run up your bandwidth too high, but if you are letting people download media content it will obviously get much higher.

A great site for getting information on which host to use and other issues that might arise is webhostingtalk. There are lots of webhosts that will offer incredible amounts of storage/bandwidth for extremely low prices, they are overselling and will most likely cut you off if you try to use all of the features they offer. We currently use anhosting, haven't had any problems with them.

Do you guys have a budget? There are are other decent ones you could get for cheaper. I just purchased a small plan from asmallorange for a personal site. Does he already have a domain name? If not he will need to register one from a place like godaddy or namecheap. I have one from namecheap and haven't had any problems with them.

We dont have a domain name or anything. This thing is just in the planning stages right now. I dont even have any data from them yet. But thanks Sharp

BTW I have Dreamweaver so I dont think that I need a host that gives a dev tool.
