October 29, 200915 yr Oh Gods, I remember a flame war almost started about this on Vent. I suggested that the Abrams, Leopard 2A6, and Challenger 2 were tied for 1st and some people reacted like the Abrams killed their family, it was unreal how passionate people thought it sucked despite the empirical evidence. I decided not to say anything beyond my original statement in fear for my life. I couldn't watch the vid owing to bandwidth constraints, but wow, the T-34? I mean I can see how historically important it is, perhaps more so than any other tank, but in terms of technical capabilities... It was great for its time, especially given the Soviet's dire situation, but technically speaking I think there are much better choices. Please tell me the Sherman didnt rate, that tank was a death trap.

The Sherman was #10, and just for the record the Abrams is a fine tank but it is outclassed by the Leopard2. The Challenger2 only is a step above the Abrams in the fact that the powerplant is more reliable in the field, the trubine they use in the M1 abrams can be FODed very easily and, the compressor blades and T wheels or "turbine blades" are very susceptible to errosion via sand and other particulates in the air close to the ground... EDIT: Even though using an aviation engine in a tank is not a new idea, using a turboshaft engine in a tank is still pretty stupid.
