Yes, the chkdsk in the win xp DOS mode "repair, check & restart" but everytime this file remain "dammaged" ???I lost my Latin when each time i got it this mistake ??? Cos each time i must do to reformat entire the hd... 12 hours to reinstall & configs all... Egidio.
You can copy that file from the win XP disc over to the HD and repair it.Can you use your system restore? If not.......Boot to an "a:/" prompt and type in scanreg /restore and hit enter. You should always keep a backup image or direct transfer on anohter HD/computer. FYI

TY Mac, but the system restore dont works when this "system" file is dammaged ?I dont have the backup image of the "system" file cos i dont get it under win xp to backup this file : access denied ?And by the "a:", i dont know how to make this one ?Egidio.
U can do it by the Xp CD to. Boot on it and choose repair. After some minutes Windows will go in DOS mode (if u have Win Xp pro with service pack 1) ro ask u if u want to repair by yourself in DOS (if u have the Xp Pro without service pack, in this case, choose go in DOS mode). Then u have to do this : c:\>cd windows "enter"c:\windows\>cd system32 "enter"c:\windows\system32\>cd config "enter"c:\windows\system32\config\>copy system.bak to system "enter"c:\windows\system32\config\>exithere your conputer reboot and now boot on your HD, if GOD is with u windows works now.I was in this case lot of time and my windows come back everytime when i do that.PS : i'm not sure of the enxtention of the system.bak file maybe it's system.bat but u just ahve to copy the good one that u will see.I'm not the king of Win Xp but with all the things that i do with my computer, i have crash it lot of time but i always get it back without the so bad command format c:Psy
