Armory Staff Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Another week brings us a great slew of news, awards, and amazing videos in the world of Battlefield, making for a lot of great information to cover as we head into this Fourth of July weekend, promising all the components for an excellent new installment to Battlefield’s Highlights of the Week! Remember the 66 year-old retiree Jaap, the world’s oldest Battlefield player? Thanks to Deltagamer.com, he’s back in the spotlight with a full interview, discussing the video, his history, and his love of Battlefield. We found out some great tidbits about Jaap including his over 700 hours of game time, he used to be a journalist, he used to be a television host, and his love of teamwork while in (virtual) combat. Be sure to head over to Deltagamer.com for the full article. Have you yet to meet Jaap for yourself? Well then, here you go... This week, we kicked off our new blog series, the Battleblog! This series will cover all aspects of gameplay found in Battlefield 3, and there’s plenty to talk about on the road to launch. In this first installment, we sat down with DICE Lead Multiplayer Designer Lars Gustavsson to talk about the multiplayer philosophy in Battlefield 3, giving a nice look at what the goals are for Battlefield 3. Curious what a Rush mode will look like? Wondering about how the Frostbite 2 engine will help the gameplay itself? Those answers and more can be found in the Battleblog – click here for the inaugural installment! YouTube - Battlefield 3: Operation Metro Multiplayer Gameplay Trailer (E3) The 35 voting publications for this year’s E3 Game Critics Awards have made their decisions for the best of E3, and Battlefield 3 was among the recipients! Battlefield 3 won awards for Best Action Game and Best Online Multiplayer, adding to the list of honor’s we’ve received from the show. The full list of Games Critics Awards winners can be found here. The folks at TGN.TV have put together an in-depth, informative and fascinating look at the history of Battlefield 2, helping to bridge the gap from the last game to the next. They go into great detail on not only BF2, but other games in the franchise as they await the launch of Battlefield 3. The talk-show approach to this 36 minute show really allows for an organic presentation, allowing for conversations to naturally flow from one subject to the next. We recently received a few genuine Paracord Bracelets, just like the ones worn by the U.S. Marines seen in Battlefield 3, helping us become that much more prepared for the unexpected. These bracelets (made out of paracord, also known as Type III Nylon Cord or 550 cord) are commonly used within the military due to the simple versatility of the material. There is a vast amount of uses for these cords, but it’s not particularly practical to carry a jumble of nylon cord in your pocket, so one way the military was able to carry them around was by braiding them into a wearable item! Care for one of your own? Simply head over to OffDutyGamers.com, where you can order one for yourself! http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/resized-image.ashx/__size/300x225/__key/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles/battlefield_5F00_bad_5F00_company/paracord.jpg Thanks for tuning in and we’ll be back next week with even more Battlefield goodies for you to enjoy! Until then, if you have any questions, comments or suggestions, leave us a note in the comments section and we’ll respond as soon as possible. Follow Battlefield on Facebook!
