January 13, 200422 yr I agree, it sounds alot like a virus to me. Try running Norton or another anti-virus. If that fails, I've always found a good way to fix stuff is to just re-install STEAM/FA. Another problem is that your CPU might be too slow to run FA, but that isn't really a problem anymore. You might also want to check to make sure you have the latest drivers for your videocard.Maybe post your system specs
January 13, 200422 yr s3 graphics pro 32mb... I used play this game with a 400mhz 182ram and gforce 2 32mb, that was FA 2.6, also I only had 56k dial up...
January 13, 200422 yr OK, Just tried to play regular halflife, the training portion... didnt even get a chance to move.... I.... am.... lost....
January 13, 200422 yr Author Put the GF2 back in and try it.I bet it is the S3 causing problems. And by the way.Steam is a system hog now Mike. You really need to switch to open GL and lower your graphics all around.Mac
January 13, 200422 yr Well, I uninstalled it all, Then switch to my CS disc instead of HL... Downloaded the cs updates and tried to play on WON.... LOCKED UP... I think my CPU has AIDS.... I was able to escape though but when I got back to the main screen my mouse arrow was gone...
January 14, 200422 yr Author Try a different mouse.USB or PS2 whichever you do not have.Have you updated all of your drivers for Sound, Video, Direct X9.0B and what ever else you might need???!!!
January 14, 200422 yr when was the last time you defragged? might wanna try that also i would suggest running norton win doctor (its in systemworks)just a thoughtor if you dont really care about the stuff on your computer i would suggest formatting starting from a clean slate
January 14, 200422 yr Author I still bet it is his Savage S# videocard. He needs to update drivers.Switch to OpenGLMake sure EAX is off.Get the game as dumb as possible. Turn every thing down, off or lower. If it still has a problem.Buy a GF4 MX440 for dirt cheap and start playing.Mac
January 14, 200422 yr No havnt defraged yet, just got the cpu a month ago... tried a new mouse, I have directx 9... I would turn my video and sound resolution down... but I cant access it in the game thats one of the things that cause it to lock up...
January 15, 200422 yr Author With Steam you do not need to access it.It is in the options/ advanced menu.Defraggin will not help.Do othe games play wellIf not or just to be sure.Remount the CPU.It may be getting to hot under gaming conditions b/c of a poor mount or not enough thermal paste.Video drivers updated?Open GL selected?
