1. This is valid for Win 8 also (no idea for Win 7)

 

Even if you don`t use Internet Explorer this option seems to affect gaming performance, at least in my case and few friends. Open Internet Explorer > Tools (little cog on the top right or Alt+X) > Internet Options > Advanced > and mark Use software rendering instead of GPU. Now restart the system, FPS should feel smoother now (not higher but smoother).

 

2. Open XBOX application > Settings > Game DVR and turn it OFF !

 

In both cases if you don`t have the apps pinned anywhere just press the Windows button and type what you are looking for.
