Posted May 22, 20187 yr Caught an article today which stated Epic Games is coughing up $100 million for Fortnite e-sports prizes. This is, as the article stated, bigger than Blizzard's $3.5 million. Even more crazy is the estimate that Epic Games is making $1 million a day on this game. Article link below for details. Epic will provide $100 million for Fortnite competition prize pools in its first year - The Verge WWW.THEVERGE.COM An eye-popping figure that vaults Epic’s battle royale game to the top tier of e-sports. It looks like Battle Royale will be sticking around for awhile with that kind of money attached to it. Maybe we should be forming up a league team to go after the money. -RabidRebel
May 23, 20187 yr Thing is this. The people competing in the esports type events etc are insanely good. Not that they are unbeatable mind you just insanely good. They win most of their matches against normal players and are net positive in wins against the other players on their lvl. The Ninjas, Dakotahz, CDNthe3rds, etc also make a good bit of money streaming Fortnite so not sure if they could get persuaded to dedicate the time to esports but who knows. Even though the game is free to play Epic are doing microtransactions in the best way possible. They are selling skins/emotes that people actually want to buy so it would not surprise me at all that they make that much. Fortnite has at least 45 million players and over 3 million concurrent users. So 1 mil a day isn't that far of a stretch IMHO.
May 23, 20187 yr Author Oh, I agree. We have some pretty good players in the group, but no one that is at the pro level (that I am aware). I wasn't entirely serious about competing on the e-sports scene. It is just a venue to consider in the context of where players are concentrating and will continue to do so for awhile. Fortnite isn't my favorite game (I have both the paid and free versions), nor is Battle Royale a preferred mode of play. It is something I wanted to bring up in the context of the current PvP game environment. More specifically, should we consider a presence with this game? How do people feel about it? Does anyone currently play it?
