there one nifty option if you go into half life.. and go to multiplayer then CUSTOM. at the bottom there is a Voice Transmit volume and recieve. put transmit fully to the right if it isn't

    Go to your volume control via control panel or whatnot.. go too you mic volume.. turn it all the way up and go to advanced... click the mic boost option.
