I dunno, I just got it in e-mail. I thought a few of them looked suspicious, but I had to boot it out the door pretty quickly.

of course I had all my facts straight! I was just making sure you guys were all on you're toes! *chuckles nervously...
Tee hee, but all the blustering still doesn't change the fact that we torched the White House. :D

Hehehe...I got a good one for ya....

After reading your post I thought I should tell you about a little invention we have here in the USA. It is called the Hooked on Phonics program. This is designed to help learn reading skills. We would most likely gladly let you guys take credit for this as well if you promise to use it on a regular basis when it comes to history books. The reason I say this is because all of my middle school text books and college text books referred to the British as the army that burned our White House NOT the Canadians. Unless I over looked the credit by proxy. I know you are wondering. by proxy? Yes, basically unless I over looked the fact you guys invented fire is the only way I could find credit due to Canada for our White House burning. However, I was a bit surprised not to see fire as one of the inventions listed maybe on the next revised copy. I tell you I was also surprised the internet was not list but I guess some else has laid claims to that in the past. sorry just had to fire that one in for a good chuckle.

Hahaha. sorry I just couldn't resist any longer. Try to research your facts guys.

Hmmm, tfen got me thinking, and considering I'm a very sad individual with nothing better to do, here is a list of all military conflicts in which France was a major participant, as well as the result for the French (to save you some reading, the French haven't won a war without the assistance of the USA since 1678). And remember, if you search for "French Military Victories" on google, it'll ask if you meant "French Military Defeats" for a very good reason:

First Indochina War, 1946-1954, France vs. Vietnam: France tried to reclaim it's territories lost to Japan during WWII. They were finally defeated with devastating losses in the Siege of Dien Bien Phu in 1954 by the Viet Minh. War resulted in the formation of North and South Vietnam.

World War II (pre-US involvement) 1939-1941, France, Poland, British Empire vs. Germany, Italy, Soviet Union: German forces, after defeating Poland, swept into France through the Low Countries and quickly defeated French and British forces throughout France, leading up to Operation Dynamo, the evacuation of French and British forces from Dunkirk to Britain from May 27 to June 4, 1941. The French surrendered to German forces shortly after this operation on June 22, 1941, and ceded control of northern and western France to Germany, while retaining rule over unoccupied Vichy France in the South.

World War I, 1914-1918, Britain, France, Russia, (US) vs. Germany, Austria-Hungary, Otoman Empire: After the withdrawl of Russia from the war in 1917, German forces began advancing on Paris. Before they reached it though, the US entered the war, and together with French and British forces, repelled the German offensive. American forces then mounted the Meuse-Argonne offensive and, together with some Italian troops, forced the surrender of all Central Powers in 1918. France was never defeated in this war, but would have been if not for the US involvement, and did not participate heavily in the offensive that won the war, so it's kinda a neutral outcome for them.

Franco-Prussian War, 1870-1871, France vs. Prussia: Prussia crushed French forces in under ten months, culminating in the Treaty of Frankfurt, which forced France to cede Alsace-Lorraine to Germany and pay Germany 2 billion francs for the cost fo the war.

Crimean War, 1854-1856, Britain, France, Ottoman Empire vs. Russia: France's involvement in this war was a disaster, and they contributed litlle to the actual offensives. The Treaty of Paris ending the war was only signed between Britain and Russia, and neither surrendered. Alexander II rose to the throne in Russia and wished to end the conflict. Another instance of France not being defeated, but relying heavily on the help of other countries.

Napoleonic Wars, 1803-1815, France vs....... well, Europe, and some of Asia and Africa: These wars are too complicated to explain even in mild detail. Basically, Napoleon slowly spread French rule around Europe and Asia until defeated in Russia (think it would be hard to invade Canada? try Russia). Allied forces descended on Paris and defeated Napoleon, exiling him to Elba in April, 1814. Napoleon escaped and returned to France on March 1, 1815, and was defeated at Waterloo on June 18, 1815 and was exiled to Saint Helena (near South America I believe). Though France had some impressive victories under Napoleon, they still lost.

American Revolutionary War, 1775-1781, 13 British colonies and France vs. Britain: After colonial victories drew French aid to defeat long-time rivals Britain, the French defeated the British navy near the mouth of the Chesapeake to cut supplies to British troops in Yorktown, and a coalition of 16,000 American and French troops forced the surrender of Cornwallis in Yorktown, VA on October 19, 1781. This is it, the French were a driving force behind a military victory.

French and Indian War (Seven Years War), 1754-1763: Britain and its colonies vs. France and the Native Americans: Culmination of hostilities between France and Britain in the New World that were more individual battles than an organized war. France surrendered on February 10, 1763 to Britain, and kept a few holding in the Caribbean, but lost most of its North American holdings, including the cession of Canada to Britain.

The War of the Grand Alliance, 1688-1697, France vs. Britain and League of Augsburg: France had expected assistance from England during this war, but after the Glorious Revolution in 1689, England sided with the League of Augsburg, thus forming the Grand Alliance. The war ended with the Treaty of Ryswick in 1697, in which King Louis XIV returned most territories he had gained since 1679.

The Franco-Dutch War, 1672-1678, France vs. Brandenburg, Holy Roman Empire, Spain, and the United Provinces: France advanced into Holland, but were stopped when the Dutch cut their dikes and threatened to drown the French troops. The war ended with the Treaty of Nijmwegen in 1678, which allowed the Spanish Netherlands to keep all it's territory, negotiated a trade of cities between France and Spain on the border of France and the Spanish Netherlands, AND gave France control of Franche-Comte', a region often fought over by France and Spain. France gained more land than they lost and did so unilaterally. The French won the Franco-Dutch war, though only over the Netherlands, but technically also over Spain, the Holy Roman Empire, and Brandenburg. The last time France won a war was 1678.

Great thanks to http://en.wikipedia.org/ for all this great info.

The reason I say this is because all of my middle school text books and college text books referred to the British as the army that burned our White House NOT the Canadians.

Yes, because we all know Canada just popped up out of nowhere.... I mean, it's not like Canada was under British rule at the time, and all those people living in Canada didn't come from Britain right?

Besides, I wouldn't put much faith in American history books. :D

what has always bothered me the most about Canada are the "Do-nuts" BUT THEY ARE NOT!!!!!! THEY ARE IMPOSTERS!!! WHY CANT YOU GLAZE A BLODDY DONUT LIKE EVERYONE ELSE!!!!1!1!!!!!! :!: !!!!eleven!!!!!
-tfen12]stilly canadians....ill tell you what the main problem is...too many damn french....hell they havent won a war since like 1800's

Like I said, tfen got me curious, and I didn't wanna just start another thread about it but I still had nothing better to do with my time. Besides, I think we all learned something from it, that France actually won a war. :?

And I don't know why everyone is making such a big deal out of Canada helping to burn down the White House. Timothy McVeigh blew up a federal building and Al Qaeda knocked down the World Trade Center towers, and look what happened to them. Lesson: Small jabs at America are fine, but if you grab our attention with something like that, you'll regret it.

It's not the french's fault that they are born with no spines :DOkay, that was a lame joke. sorry.Just to be fair about France in WW2, let's not forget that the French Resistance did their part to keep the germans and Vichy French forces busy. More germans trying to take down the resistance = less germans on the front fighting Brits and Americans.
