April 1, 200422 yr I think it is a waist of cash, it costs billions to build such a weapon and launch it into space, and by the law of murfy the rocket transporting it would explode... And space combat is very unhealty fore the crafts and personel, have you ever seen what a splinter of paint can do to a sattelite? I have nothing against dreaming but this sounds a bit unrealistic... But than again so was life on Mars
April 2, 200422 yr LOL, those weapons in space are going to someday be the US's primary defense against ICBMs.Do you realize that right now, in the event of a nuclear war, all US citizens are considered casualties. The only action that will be taken is too try and keep alive top military officialls and or government officials. Right now the US is experimenting with putting high powered chemical lasers on large Jets to shoot down missles. There is no way they can keep up in an all out war.If we could perfect a space based weapons system America's chances of surving THE WAR would be much much better.
April 2, 200422 yr I doubt they would work against MIRVs, and they definetly wouldn't stop an all out attack from a nuclear super power. I think the laser planes are the best idea for now, capable of stopping a rogue nation that has a couple of ICBMs. You can read stuff on the laser planes at http://www.cnn.com/2002/US/07/19/air.force.missile/ It's outdated info though, I saw something on ultimate top tens 2 months ago where they admited to being able to fire the chemical laser up to 6 times before needing to reload the chemical tanks.

April 5, 200422 yr not trying to take a stab at anyone or anything, but Bush seems to be obsessed with space right now... I like the space elevator idea more http://www.space.com/businesstechnology/technology/space_elevator_020327-1.html
April 5, 200422 yr As of now, yes we are. When the programs are complete the U.S. will be able to protect itself and its allies from missles...
