My new science project

Featured Replies

Last one has ended 2 weeks ago. I will be writing report this weekend and post it after its been qualified.Right now im in deep.I went to the Raman Spectroscopy Lab and was thrown on deep water. I can do 3 projects simultaniously (or concentrate on 1):1. Magnetic conductivity and Hall efect + raman spetroscopy on the GaP (gal and phosphorus) with p-conductivity and Mn-additions into crystalline structure sample. We will be using extremely low temperatures (<4K - liquid nitrogen and helium come inhandy) in order to make the solenoid go superconductive. I can/will be little more that observer to this experiment. I already started this today. We were pumping nitrogen and helium above the sample and the solenoid. It go treally cold in the room. Then, when we thought everything was going well, we ran out of helium. We will continue on monday.2. The same as above, but this time GaN (i dont know if there will be any additions). I can have more impact on this project. I could call it team project (2-3 person including me). But it could be hard for me, for i am not that educated yet.3. The last one is the project i could do solo (i mean i am in control of the project - the professor will be overlooking me - thats neccesary) - i run the machinery and i write the report myself. The topic is (translation can be hard): "differences between crystalline silicon carbide (SiC) and a SiC nanotube (diameter = 10ths of nanometres) of unknown crystalline structure using the raman spectroscopy".I must say the 3rd one looks most promising. Not to mention i could lay my hands on the electron microscope (DROOLS). First will be ending next week, with 3rd starting immediately thereafter. 2nd will be pain-in-the-butt intersection.Which one would you pick?
Do the one yourself and learn the most by doing it yourself and maybe making some mistakes.Best way to learn. Be humble, go on, persevere.
I should go fore 3, that way you got more impact on the research, and in case of something nice that is revealed, you got your name on it  What is always good fore your future.

You could be right, Mac. With 3rd one i can do less damage. First two ones require use of liquid niotrogen and helium. Small mishap and BOOM. Also the superconductor is not totally safe. It produces HELL of a magnetic field. I could lose glasses, my bus magnetic card could be erased and if i eaten anything metallic in the last few days (like nails), i could end up with a hole in stomach area.
wow..kywalker you have THE most interesting job i have ever heard of...what the heck do you do?
Why do u ask us here about this. Me besides history i know nutting. U talk gibrish to me  . Hmm.... lets see ini mini minie moe.... 3
It may be hard to understand but it sounds cool. Sad i dont have the head fore it but i used become a science or physics dude. I ended up with Psychology
Go with the third KY from reading your first post i would think that you will get more out of the third project
do the onE THAT COULD CAuse the most damage :) :( :( :)

IMHO, his posts on TA Forums are causing the most damages... to some of the members :D

His physics projects are not that dangerous... Besides, who cares about Europe? He can blow it up :)

Or i can go to one of the wonderfull american PAC (particle accelerators) facilities.... or fusion plans, or nuclear plants. Guess then what???? :) :D

U will fix it, i presume :D

I walked into Raman Spectroscopy lab on monday and immeidately they shouted at me to leave cell phone and credit cards at the entrance. I did, but didnt know why yet. As i walked further i saw that monitor was behaving funny. The picture looked kinda normal except that at the edges it curved greately. It looked like a big mess of colors at the edges of the screen. I started to understand the phone-and-card precautions and my thoughts were confirmed when i saw the magnetic field gauge. It showed 4T [Tesla]. FOUR TESLAS!. The superconductor was giving all that. I hadnt had time to confirm, but they told me that at 7T the monitor was useless. Now i understand why all the cables are heavy shielded.
