June 2, 200421 yr Okay,I have a P4 2.6 800FSB512 DDR 400 CorsairFX5900xt gold edition, made for overclockingI own Far Cry and play it with the graphics maxed. In my opinion, this comp should be able top handle it right?At first, it runs fine, only slowing down a lil at the beginning for about the first minute of play then it goes smoothly.After about 15 minutes I start getting graphical errors and then I start getting a massive drop in fps, I'd say 1-10 fps.I only get this problem with Far Cry. My brother and I think it might be a heat problem but we're not sure.I notice on the Far Cry box that it reccomends 1024 of ram.Anyone know what's goin' on?
June 2, 200421 yr Probably the CPU getting hot. They have thermal throttleing availible on some motherboards and thios could be activating.Check your CPU mount and to see if the fan is on. Make sure there is no dust obstructing it. Make sure it is mounted properly.DO not overclock the 5900XT if you are.Also if it is ram. Make sure your AGP Arperture is at 64mb and no more. Also try to have your swap file fixed at a nominal number of say 700mb at least. Check to see if both sticks are seated correctly.
June 2, 200421 yr yes id say its yer overclocking thats killin you and prolly overheating yer comp expecially if you dont have any extra cooling on it, also the graphics lag at the beggining of yer game is that u prolly do not have enough ram but once u get into the game it should be fine so i wouldnt worry about that
June 2, 200421 yr The other possiblilty is your power supply. If it is not sending enough jiuce after it gets warm to where it needs to go. The CPU and Graphics card can slow up. Yes it can. A power supply failing to deliver will not always result in a Crash or Lockup. As Punisher described it is a marginal loss of FPS. June 3, 200421 yr Author First of all, the card I have is made for over clocking, even more then what we set it at...We have a monitor program but it won't show temps for some reason...Today my brother noticed that we had less then a gig free on the HD, 80 gig drive to lolHe thinks it was slowin down because not enough virtual memory or somethin' like that.Gonna try Far Cry again real fast, I'll post again if there is still a problem.
