June 3, 200421 yr Hi i have a slightly old computer its winxp pro with 1.5ghz, geforce 5600, 512 mb of ram, 40 gig harddrive. 500watt power supply. and the problem i have is that it locks up alot. It locks up no matter what i am doing i could start up steam and it locksup, run IE, use ms paint. also it sometimes locks up when i start the computer and it is loading the startup programs. i already replaced the cpu fan to a more powerful one. checked all the ram. and even put in a new powersupply and it still does it. also i ran programs to check for viruses and i didn't find any. and i fixed all the reg errors. i noticed when i open up the taskmanger i find run32dll.exe running and i looked on the internet about that file and it says it is related to some virus but i ran avg 6.0 and it says there are no virues. i don't know what to do and it is driving me crazy and i was wondering if anybody knows what could be the porblem. thanks
June 4, 200421 yr Take out one stick of ram.try differnt ram slots.Reinstall the videocard drivers.Reinstall the Motherboard drivers.Update windows thorughly. Update direct XIt can be software.Shutdown the run32dll.exe and see if it still happens. Delete it if you can find it.Try a different videocard.
June 4, 200421 yr Author i already updated the video.directx, windows and it still locks up. also i can't delete run32dll.exe because windows uses it to load dll into the memory. next ill try out the ram in the morning.
June 4, 200421 yr also do a disk clean up and defragif all those options fail do a reformat.make sure to have all your software tho.sounds like you just need to maintanance it.
June 4, 200421 yr As to your run32 file loading and in ctrl-alt-del list, I used to always see it there too. Then I used "Spybot" and went to it's "tools" - "startup" section where it shows all that's loading at start and when highlighted pops up box saying if it really needed. I let it cancel run32 and many other things. Probs went away and everything still works
June 5, 200421 yr maybe try another virusscanner (some can be startet from a web site -> http://housecall.trendmicro.com or http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/vc_scan.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym&plfid=23&pkj=IOYBMQCKMRKRFPECDME&vc_scanstate=2) or try AdAware against Spy- and AdWare (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware)... you'll be impressed what they find...
