PUNISHER's take on 2.9

Featured Replies

First off, I'm not flaming, spamming, nagging, or starting another 2.9 complaint thread.

Just gonna say where I think 2.9 holds up compared to past versions and games.

The goods:

-new maps, Basrah is my favorite, play even and doesn't lag

-new weapons, the m4 and m14 both belong in FA and add to the overall character to the game

-new bullet prediction, although its the cause of the horrific bugs in 2.9, it allows guns to actually "hit" where they are aimed. example, in 2.9 all my shots seem to hit I only miss when my crosshair isn't on the target.

The Bads:

obviously the countless number of bugs:shotguns, lag issues, and the constant crashes are a big turnoff.

In my opinion, you have 2 choices in terms of strategy 1) take a shotgun and rush or 2) camp with mg's, SR's, or GL's.

SMG's and the AR's don't play as strong a role due to the bugs. You can argue that they are still good but even a skilled famas user can be owned by a new-comer who uses the 870 or saiga.

to me, 2.9, even with the patch, is a good example of a beta FA. The bugs that were missed anger me because they were known way back win TAC tested 2.9. They should have been caught.

However, some good can come out of the foul-ups.

If there is a 3.0 it needs to be tested more extensively. FA is a small game and those who play it care about the direction it is heading.

Open up release candidates so more people can test and look for bugs. Surprises are gonna get leaked anyway so there is no point in trying to keep a sekrat.

In conclusion, a clean and non-buggy 2.9 would be by far the best FA of all time.

-new maps

-new weapons

-new bullet code

=better gameplay and more ways to play.

2.9, even with all its bugs, is still better than DoD and CS, but hey, thats just my opinion.

Jerkov all burst weapons are affected by this (see later) bug, as well as the shotguns too. I'm a bit tired of ppl only saying the M16 is since it's not the only burst capable weapon. As u all know I use exclusively the M16 but I only use it in Single shot right now (and try really hard not to forget to switch to it), unless rushed by ppl who use Brust or Shotgun no need to hold back for them  The bug is that each bullet (or pellet in the shotgun case) dose twice the damage. So 1st bullet normal damage 2nd twice and 3rd three times. For Shotguns it's even worse since they fire about 12 pellets, well I let u do the math :)To Punisher I do agree 2.9 is by far the coolest FA version ever and once all these bugs are gone it will be great! I don't really care about the new guns :) but the new maps are nice and my favorite point the fixed prediction is way too cool :)And maybe have the next version tested a bit more and on a larger scale might really help avoiding these kind of problems. On the other hand all of the FA team dose this in their spare time so I'm glad they did spend time to make this cool mod :)Just have fun playing the game,[DIAL]Doc
I love the M14, but it sucks that most people use shotties, snipers, or burst all the time. I liked in 2.8 when you could use an SMG almost as effectively as an AR, and the way the grenades work is kinda annoying, but that was in 2.8 too, I think. But like everyone else says, when (if) the bugs are fixed, it will own.

Not quite true,

ok, tested a bit too (on FA 2.9 patched, of course), used "log on" and "mp_loglevel 3" to determine damages inflicted. I cleared the logs a bit up, to make them more readable:

One shot with Remmy to full heavy armor guy:

"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "1")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "3")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "4")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "6")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "7")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "9")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "10")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "12")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "13")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "15")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "16")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "18")Notice how the damages add up?

So I got curious and tried a burst weapon. I chose the MP5. First three single shots on the heavy armored guy:

"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "4")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "4")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "4")

Three shots, three times the same damage (4).

Now I tested with the MP5 burst:

"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "4")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "9")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "13")

And again, the damages added up.

Conclusion:

On a full hit, remington should deal 42 damage to hitpoints (with my FA calculator: after 12 pellets you have 58hp and 0ap left): but deals infact 192 damage (which is the same as ignoring armor, but i think this is just incidentally the same).

On a 3rb a MP5 should deal 4*3 = 12 damage to hp but does infact deal 26 damage.

Here we can clearly see, that the prediction code doesn't like spreaded shots. Each bullet does its own damage plus the damage inflicted by the previous hits. Hope this helps, and Mazor please fix this

Some further tests:

M16 (3 single shots)

"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "5")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "5")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "5")

M16 Burst

"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "5")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "11")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "17")

Saiga

"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "0")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "1")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "2")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "3")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "4")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "4")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "5")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "6")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "7")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "8")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "9")"AndroidXP" attacked "Wajeeh Shurrab}+{" (damage "10")

Saiga behaviour was pretty strange, sometimes I needed 4 shots (point blank) to kill, sometimes 1 even from a distance.

mazor says:

Wow, NICE find. I think I know whats going on, its calling an "AddMultiDamage" function and then finally calling "ApplyMultiDamage" function AFTER all the pellets added up. I can see how people are saying the shotty causes 900+ damage or whatever it was that people are saying. Since its shooting multiple pellets from the same FireBullets call (same as any burst weapon or shotgun spread) it'll do that, but when its one single call per bullet (full auto or semi) it doesn't do that because the damages get added up separately.

Very nice find, thank you!

ya, i used to use the Mp5 all the time, now it just doesn't measure up and I'm forced onto the M4. Though i agree that 2.9 does kick mightely there really needs to be a 3.0
