July 31, 200421 yr Yeah, but man, those cards suck major for Doom3 :DEven a 9800 pro isn't too hot for new games. However, The Nvidia 6800 GT can be had for $400 CDN and beats the tar out of the new $500 CDN X800 in Doom3 :DHeh, I like the warning John Carmack from Id gives Video Card overclockers..... "reset your clock rates to factory default, alot of graphical hardware features Doom3 uses will not have ever been used on your video card before"

August 1, 200421 yr Author Alot of people that overclock their cards do not add CPU coolers on the GPU and a fan that rests top to cool the "Back" of the card. :DMine will be stable.

"reset your clock rates to factory default, alot of graphical hardware features Doom3 uses will not have ever been used on your video card before" you cant compair the x800 with the 6800GT. that like a wrestling match with wrestlers not in the same weight class. the x800 was made to be compaired to the Gforce 1590. otherwise ATI beats the smack out of Nvidia.
August 1, 200421 yr Err, how so? The X800 is $100 more then the GT, and loses by 25-33% in all the Doom3 benchmarks. That is brutal incompetence, it was a major mistake on ATI's part to make it have 12 pipes instead of 16. No, I'm not an Nvidia fanboy, my current card is ATI, but man, they royally messed up this generation of cards.
August 1, 200421 yr http://www2.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjQ0LDY= scroll down and find the 9600 XT 128mb (the card I'm buying) check out how good it runs Doom3 average fps:47.7 Min FPS: 22 Max FPS: 60 that's pretty damn good if you ask me and so what if it's medium quality, it still looks good...
August 1, 200421 yr Its the same thing forever: Ati vs Nvidia. Who wins ? Who looses ? I say only something, if you wanna buy a new videocard, dont buy ati. I have more problems with my ati 9800 xt, than i had with my several video cards, with an nvidia chip, in the past years. For years my GF 4 TI 4600 was great to run all games. Its one of the greatest mistakes i made to change to ati. The problem with ati isnt the card, it is the driver you use. I never had problems with the drivers for nvidia, even the not official ones.
August 1, 200421 yr what kind of problems do you have with your ati drivers? i've used ati for the last 5yrs and i have never had problems with the drivers. though i have never i had problems with ati, the next GPU that i get will be something from Nvidia. i want to see the comparison between the two GPU's for myself.
August 2, 200421 yr I use the catalyst drivers, at the moment no. 4.7. Sometimes i start the system and i see nothing on the screen, i make a reboot, all works fine then. Sometimes i run the system, system starts, then i see two big lines from above the screen to the ground. I make a restart, all is fine. Sometimes i install something, then i dont see the icon, but i see the name of the icon. Strange, isnt it ?

August 3, 200421 yr In your folder HL (C:\Steam\steamapps\email\half-life\gldrv\) there is a file called : drvmap.txt who must contain this :Default Defaultgldrv/nvoglnt.dll OpenGL DriverIn place of the original text.<--- But make a backup or rename your old D3D text.Else here the old driver:Default Defaultgldrv/3dfxgl.dll 3Dfx Mini DriverAnd, in the same folder, you to to copy your opengl file driver into this folder : ex. = nvoglnt.dll for nvidia drivers.PS. You do to make the same modifications for each games on Steam : For CD, DoD and other, you do to input these files into each same gldrv folders to use the opengl instead of the 3dfxgl driver. My son and me, we have burned the OpenGL graphics part, in playing FA, of 3 nvidia gf ti 4200 128MB. onto waranties and replaced by the FX 5600 128MB. for me and a FX5900 128MB. for Psy4 : now all is alright.Egidio.
