August 15, 200421 yr I HAVE DOOM 3. I installed the game. I can run it on 1280 x 1024 in ultra mode. No problems so far... But... During gaming i see sometimes some white points on the screen. I have read on some forums that that could be the case with some ati cards (especially the 9800 XT, that i have). Is the beta Catalyst Drivers from ati (4.9 ?) the solution ? I have some problems with the official ones from Ati, i dont wanna install the beta driver, im afraid that other problems are following. Some of you, have a solution or a hint for me ?By the way, the game looks absolutely great. Its dark, the speakers are on, nobody else at home, you sit in your room, you sit before your monitor, you start doom3...... Oh my god, finally, its done.... I AM PLAYING DOOM 3....
August 15, 200421 yr Author I have forgotten something: Has anyone also problems with the Sound ? I have a Creative Audigy 2 ZS Soundcard. I have the problem sometimes, that if i start doom3, it doesnt find my soundsystem. Strange.. Hm.. (The drivers are the newest available).
August 15, 200421 yr Erm.. do you have 7.1 arnie? or anything other that 5.1? because if you are trying to run it in 5.1 and have a 7.1 system selected in the sound settings it will think you odnt have a 5.1 system.... to sort this out simply select 5.1 speaker option from your sound settings and you should be able to select 5.1 in game..As for the GFX card, i have an ATi card and i can honestly say that i have yet to have a problem. you can "TRY" the beta drivers, if there are any problems then there is a small tool on ATi's site that will remove everything to do with ATi from the system, then you can reinstall the Alhpa drivers!
August 15, 200421 yr http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14874 The thread in the link above might give a boost in performance for ATI users. Try it, then let me know then I'll try it, lol. This tweak will not do anything for Nvidia users, in fact might make things worse.
August 15, 200421 yr all nvidia cards that meat the minimum requirements run the game great, and if youre going to be using 3rd party drivers, i'd look for the omega qulaity drivers
August 15, 200421 yr Author Thanks, Shotty.. Sound Problem solved. I have a 7.1 system... When i change it to 5.1 in XP Settings, Doom3 is running now with 5.1. I have no Performance Problem with my ati 9800 xt. I only see white points all over the screen. I dont think that a performance tool can solve this problem. But i will try it.Thanks in advance.
August 15, 200421 yr The info on that thread was not really meant to solve problems but was meant to help increase your frames per second for ATI cards. The game does run better with nvidia cards and it does good with ATI cards too. It is just a way to increase performance. This tweak seems to work best on the X800 cards than earlier cards but should be noticably different on the 9800 series. This is not an official tweak from ATI nor the creators of Doom 3. I've read that ATI does promise better performance for Doom3 later on.
August 15, 200421 yr i have a radeon 9600 SE and doom 3 runs fine on medium detail at 640 by 480 which is my preferred res other than 800 by 600
August 17, 200421 yr Author Hm, Ati has released a new driver today. But in the release notes i find nothing that the doom3 problem is solved. I think the next driver will solve it. Anyway, i am thinking to buy a nvidia card.
August 17, 200421 yr i would reccomend them, they've always worked perfectly forme, and have great driver support
August 19, 200421 yr those white dots are called artifacts. Basically this happens when the card is overclocked to much and its running to hot. You might be running to hot, thus causing the artifacts. what i suggest, is run ATI tool and downclock the card and see if that helps. If it does then you need to cool the card better in order to run at the stock xt speeds.
August 19, 200421 yr Author Thanks Paluch. I dont know right now, if i do that, but i will think about it.The new 4.8 Ati Driver hasnt solved the problem so far.
August 19, 200421 yr It sounds like vertical shearing.... turn on Vsynch in the Doom settings and see if it goes away.
August 20, 200421 yr Author I turned VSync on. Its much better, but i have still white points. Sniff.. Sniff...By the way: the game is so scary, i had several heart attacks...
August 20, 200421 yr Arnie]I turned VSync on. Its much better, but i have still white points. Sniff.. Sniff... By the way: the game is so scary, i had several heart attacks... ati tool!!!!! http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/ATITool_0.0.21.exe it doesnt hurt your video card. Just make sure you dont overclock to much. I suggest is to down clock till ati tool detects no artifacts. Ati tool is great cause it has a feature which detects artifacts.
