SPII question.

Featured Replies

I remember seeing something in the news on the homepage about issues with SPII. Now, I can't find that or find anything on the net about known issues. Does anyone know if it effects FA or HL in general? I'm downloading the Windows XP SPII now.
i downloaded windows xp SP2 and it wouldn't let me install it, i got some error like. .. "Windows Service Pack 2 was unable to install over your current version of Windows. Please uninstall your current version, then install service pack 2"I think this might've happened because I think I already have SP2 installled, but I don't know how to check :/I haven't noticed any problems with Half-Life or Firearms, but I thought I read it might give you trouble with Counter Stirke or Condition Zero. . .

Well, thanks vesper, I just found that it is mostly due to firewall being running. Just like any other firewall you have to allow access to programs you want access to. Simple. I guess I will find the other issues as I go.

I right go to add remove programs and it says:

v 20040803.231319

so do i have an older version :cry:cause directx 9.0c won't install for me, i can download and run install without errors, it takes like .5secs to install, says it worked fine, but i check my directx version and it still says 9.0b :cry:i hope crying about my problems will fix them :cry:ps. my service pack 2 doesn't show up in add/remove programs, i think my operating system is called service pack 2, i've had it for about a month nowmy mom works at some company who already has service pack 3, so i think i might just have a different service pack 2 :?
but isnt SP2 for programmers and ppl like that? coz on the microsoft page it says that its for networking programmers and stuff...
The link to download SP2 says that the file is for network administrators. The file size is 266mb. When SP2 update is available from the automatic updates it will probably be around 100mb. The reason the file for network administrators is so large in size is because it includes not only WinXP but updates for other versions of Windows allowing network admins to install updates to all clients using various operating systems from the server in one step. It is ok to use it to install on your personal computer.
i think SP2 is for programmers, because that is what my mom does and she had it a while ago, now she has SP3i guess i'll just have to wait for the automatic update

Don't mean to sound hard, but I know for a fact that sp3 has not been released yet. Only reason I know this is because the company I work for (town council in Finland) is a dedicated tester of all new patches for MS.
My mom is a liar D:!unless her company is testing it also, cause she said her company had a lot of problems with it

You are probably talking about a service pack a different Microsoft product. For example Microsoft Office has service packs as well, which would be important for a programmer to know.
do you need SP2 to be able to install directx 9.0ccause for some reason it says it installs fine, but when i check my directx version by running "dxdiag" it says i have 9.0b :/
dx 9.0c is still a beta sometimes you will have problems on your os that are hard to recreate on others... just the same as all cpus are not built the same even though they have the same lable.
I have sp2 installed on xp pro and direct x 9.0c as wellI had no issues, then again I did a clean install with a custom slipstreamed cdslipstreamed means I copied the cd contents to a folder, opened a command prompt and installed sp2 to the contents of said folder, and reburned the cdseems odd, but saves you the trouble of installing windows, then drivers, firmware, etcthen installing the spsaved me at least 45 minutes

DO NOT CLICK DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE UPDATING JUST ONE COMPUTER: A smaller, more appropriate download will be available soon on Windows Update. To receive this download, turn on the Automatic Updates feature in Windows XP to receive an optimized download of SP2. Please visit Protect Your PC for more information on receiving Windows XP SP2.

If you have problems with SP2, which I have heard others report, it is because you did not read that line before you downloaded and installed the wrong version of SP2. The consumer version will be out soon. Just wait. I tried out that version before formatting my computer, and I think it was the cause of all the bad textures in Call of Duty.
ok, i guess all i can do now is wait ;)i think it comes out august 24th, but i'm not sure
