August 23, 200421 yr Go get it! Since I have a paper route, I wake up early and don't really go back to sleep, so I was the first on my block to play Rome:Total War when Fileplanet updated this morning!!! I have to say, this is the Half-Life 2 of the RTS community. It simply rocks the pants off of every other RTS out there. The demo includes one tutorial (for those of you who have never played a Total War title). But if you've played Shogun or Medieval, you can skip this, and jump right into The Battle of Trebia. This battle was between Hannibal's meger army against the massive wave if Roman Legions. A short cinematic plays, explaining the situation, and then it drops you in and lets you do whatever you want. I told my spearmen to hold their ground with their spears pressed foward. Once the Romans first line of infantry came in, I got my Barbarians to rush them and inflict heavy damage. Then came about 5 infantry regiments. I pushed my spearmen foward to take out the three regiments near the middle, and use the 2 elephant units I had sweep in and crush the regiments on the left and right side. With this particular (?) scenario, you have 4 regiments of calvary hidden in the trees on each flank of the romans. After my elephant rush, I quickly used these regiments to surround the romans. The rest was a breeze as I ran my elephants back and forth through the compaced roman forces. In the end, it was a decisive victory. I had Deployed 800 men and in the end I had 689 left. The Romans deployed somewhere around 1500 and eneded up with only 621 units when they inevitably fled. This is my massive Elephant rush that crushed the roman regiments. The elephants are the coolest units in this scenario. They fling guys into the air, sweep them to the side and step on them. Once they rush through, they turn around and surround the regiment they're attacking, and then just pick off the guys one by one... I HIGHLY recommand that everyone play this demo. It's great fun and has convinced me to buy the game once it's released
