Posted August 31, 200421 yr I understand these are growing to be a bit tedious, but bare with me. I just wanted some comments, The only parts I already have would be the Abit Nf7S and the case which, I have no idea what it is. It's an aspire case, very large Xpider maybe. Anyway, here's what I was thinking, all from New Egg. Mac, that mobo One of the ones you recommended, does not support DIMM. That kinda sucks. When I search for DIMM, It comes up, maybe I misread it. Here it is http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-130-457&depa=1 As for the NF7S.. .. Well.. If no one wants it for 70 bucks here on these forums.. I'm selling it on Ebay. But it's 70 bucks, for a Nvidia NF7S 2.0. Cheapest you'll find it. You want it, hit me up with an adress on P/M.

August 31, 200421 yr Looks Great to me.No need to overclock when you can spend like that.Make sure you get the GT videocards. The regular 6800's only have 12 pipes open compared to 16 and slower memory for the most part. That does make a difference.OH NO> WAIT>I CANNOT RECOMMEND ANYTHING.Oh well. Now I do not have to look stuff up and can play instead.......

August 31, 200421 yr It means your selection is GREAT and I would buy that myself. However I would look at getting a new motherboard and a Athlon 64 Chip. Since you have money to burn......Look at the MSI NEO Motherboard (Nforce3) and a Athlon64 3000.

Look at the MSI NEO Motherboard (Nforce3) and a Athlon64 3000. Iagree I would suggest anyone upgrading now for the long term to go for a sockte 754 board. If you're strapped for cash you can get the sempron(new duron based on Athlon 64 with 64 bit disabled) with room to move up the ladder with a Athlon 64. 754 is the long term retail plan for AMD, with 939 being mostly workstations and anyone who has cash to burn to get the top of the line. Socket A will be phasing out over the next year, as AMD expect K8 revenues to exceed K7 by the end of the year.

September 1, 200421 yr First of all stay away from that hitachi hard drive. It is crap. I rma two in a row and finally just got a refund. Spend a couple more dollars and get a western digital, seagate, or maxtor. One of the drives would not detect. The other worked for one day and all data and the partition was corrupted and the hitachi diagnostics said it was defective due to excessive shock. If your staying with 7200 rpm drives you can just get a pata drives instead. It would run the same speed, the only advantage which is a good advantage is that the cables are smaller. If you get a sata drive just remember you will need drivers from your motherboard Cd onto a floppy disk before installing windows.Otherwise everything looking good. As Mac suggested if you going with Nvidia 6800 get the GT model even if it doesn't have the fancy aftermarket cooler on it.If going with A64 get the Nforce3 250gb chipset as Mac suggested. If you want to overclock in the future make sure the board has an agp/pci lock which I believe all the boards with the chipset recommended does.

I have the 3200+ with 1mb cache (clawhammer). They run very fast. Only allows to run memory single channel but its not necessary as the memory controllers are built into the cpu instead of the northbridge cpu so it isn't bandwidth starved like Pentium 4's which benefit from running dual channel.

What drivers do you have to move? Although you said the mobo drivers, What if they already come on a floppy? Thanks.
