Yay! Guns are just tools. You don't see people banning pencils that are more than 1 foot long. Big guns are just like big pencils: a novelty item and slightly more dangerous. 8)

except pencils don't kill people. I wouldn't call that "slightly".

except pencils CAN and have in the past killed people. it's rare, and it doesn't happen often, but it happens.

I really don't understand why you Americans are so obsessed with firearms...

To protect my freedoms. I can't remember the exact quote, but theres a quote out there that says something to the effect there are three boxes that will protect your freedoms - your soapbox, your something box, and your ammo box.

Another thing I don't understand is why you guys think that a gun is going to protect your house. Think about it. The robber probably has a gun, and he sees you with a gun. He will probably shoot you. Duh. The chance of you getting shot if you didn't have a gun are significantally lower than that if you did.

Except statisitcally speaking, in states that's it's allowed you can have CCW's, the ammount of muggins, rapes, murders, ect. go down BECAUSE of the guns. Guns are one thing that the robbers are afraid of - I doubt you'd have someone robbing your house if they think, or know, that you've got a shotgun waiting for them.

Amendment II

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Ususally people don't think of milita being relevant to these days, and it's been cited as a reason the second amendment is not relevant any longer.

Militia can be defined in the context of the consittution as, "The entire body of physically fit civilians eligible by law for military service."

Militia by this definition obviously covers a large portion of the adult population. Often people would join a local militia to receive some form of basic training, but that is not implicit. In time of crisis, those who were not part of the army or militia would often join a militia group, and thus the right to bear arms was important, because a militia often does not have funding to supply weapons to all who would join.

The right to bear arms was enured to the people that we might have the ability to ensure for ourselves a free and secure state. How can you have a free state if the people are not able to defend it?

The United States, being in the position we are in, it is not likely we will face a full scale invading force any time soon. Who are those we must defend against?

Those who would jeopardize our security and freedoms. Criminals who would threaten our person and property and government who would attempt to strip us of our rights, in the name of security(that security we the people are tasked with keeping). I would not reccomend fighting the government with the gun just yet, but we did it once in our history at least, which is the reason we have a constitution laid out as we do, which limits the governments power over the people. Rather, write letters and vote  Run for office and speak out. Fewer guns in the hands of the people may save the lives of a few unfortunate people caught in gun accidents, but it will lead to more gun crime. Restrictive gun laws only say, "The people can not be trusted." This is a very dangerous thing to say in a land in which the government claims to be of the people, by the people, for the people. If the people can not be trusted with guns, how can you trust them with the power to legislate, a far more dangerous tool.

I still don't understand your guy's opinions regarding firearms, and I still only partially understand why you think each person should pack a gun. But, I respect your opinions.

I don't think everyone should have a gun.In fact, I think people should have to be recertified every 2-3 years to own firearms. Also, I don't care if my children hate guns with a passion. But they WILL know how they work just in case they are at some tards house and he/she decides to start flailing one around like a toy.PUNISHER

Letting this crap ban expire was a good thing! I face guns every day and have been shot at and let me tell you that ban did NOTHING but keep guns from the good people of this country. The bad guys had the guns and it did not stop them. The Micheal Moore crap movie some of you love to quote should be noted it didnt stop that either. Maybe you should note that the ban did NOTHING to stop that from going on. Maybe you should look at how most of the cops that are actually out in the field getting shot at think about these useless bans. Or you can listen to people who either have not been on the street in so long they cant remember if they even can find their service pistol or the politcal types who just shake in fear holding an unloaded weapon. We have name for people like that where I come from.I suggest knowing the FACTS before you insert your foot firmly into your pie hole. I face danger almost every day and I tell you that ban or other like it do NOTHING but give liberals a reason to have meetings about how they are helping make the world a "better"....be a better place for who..terrorist? Give a me a freaking BREAK. I know we dont need to be political but come on...this is crap someone would name that FAT peace of craps movie as fact. Do facts mean nothing to you....I know they mean nothing to that sack of scum.BTW I wish I could say here what I would like to say

Thank you StateCop. You probably have the most experience, here, in the area of guns and gun crimes. As you said, the bans do nothing but keep guns out of the hands of good people. I don't understand how making more laws can stop criminal activity of this type. The fact is that it can not. Crimes are commited by people who break the law. Why wouldnt they break a new one?I hope you don't hate all liberals StateCop, because I like what you have to say. I do like Moore though  I don't agree with everything he has to say(not even close), but he has passion. If only more people would share their thoughts with such passion instead of following the lead of whomever is most visable. Moore would be one message among many. With so many loud annoying opinions flying around nobody would know which one to agree with, and might develope their own.

I really don't understand what you're saying. Is it something like...you're getting shot at by these 'banned guns' so you're pissed off that they're not actully 'banned' it's just that law-abiding citizens don't have them, but the bad evil cop haters do?

Why did you have to pull Micheal Moore into this?

He made an excellant documentary (documentary: Presenting facts objectively without editorializing or inserting fictional matter, as in a book or film) where he tried to figure out why Americans need guns to feel safe! If you look at the 'FACTS' as you put it, it all really comes back to the fact that americans are paranoid and afraid of their fellow man.

I'm just glad I don't live in America right now...

Only police and military should have guns imo

agreed

Micheal Moore is freak and a loss to his own life. He wastes his life busting on things and creating false, opinionated so called "documentaries" that destroy our culture like the one I read about in TIME magazine where he is goin to show how 9/11 could have been prevented and that it was all Bush's fault. A load of crap at the least. And our constution gives us the rights to own arms so that people who try to shoot/kill/rob us will have a small problem in their way. *cough*7.62nato*cough*

It all comes down to this:

if you are afraid of guns and feel that they are obsurd for public use

if you feel that gun ownership is a right and that it shouldnt be restriced.

I want no restrictions (except on buying age)

The selling of firearms and the import also creates jobs in the international market with millions having no job but to fit a barrel to a revceiver. Nuff Said
