I see the different versions offer different source codes like DoD source HL source, and CS source.Does this mean DoD isn't free now? As in no free downloads on line when it comes out?And, whats the point of having HL source?

To most people there will be no point. This game is so old now that they don't care who has the source code. This could allow people to modify the game everyway possible.

DoD was bought out by Vavle, thus legally, it's not a retail game, and thus they are able to profit off it. If you buy one of the packages that comes with it, you will be able to get patchs and stuff for DoD: Source for freethey may still make patchs for non-source DOD, and CS, and you'll still be able to get those for freeand HL: Source is just a gimmick for people who didn't play Hl first time around or who want a another run at it.

you can still play DoD with your HL cd key. u WILL need to pay extra for DoD on the HL2 engine (source) i recommend getting HL2 silver since u will get EVERYTHING availible on steam ;)HL1 source is just HL1 with little source addons like the new water and physics. basically everything else is same

yepi recommend burning day of defeat.gcf to a cdwhen u reformat, just copy that back to its folder and u dont have to download it again

I'm buying retail, HL2 Collector's Edition, because I want the DVD and could give a rat's booty about CS: Sourceplus, from what I hear, I won't just get Hl2, CS: S, and HL: S (yes, I know already about the book, shirt, etc)I prefer having an actual copy of the game so they can't just go "oops, your account doesn't show you bought HL2 Gold"I can send them a copy of the reciept and photos of everything and go, yeah I did, neener

Yeah, I agree with Kama. That's the same way I feel. It seems like my account has been screwed over by steam too many times to spend all the money and in 3 months come to find out Steam thinks I never purchased such items.
