October 21, 200421 yr Those companies just need to release the game when its finished and stop jacking around.HL2 has been "finished" for god knows how long, no wonder people inside the company "leak" the games.I find it hard to believe that all those games were stolen without help from the inside.I don't own any of those companies or controll any of their decision making but it makes no sense to hold back a game for months at a time only because of some small bug.Even highly tested RCs that were thought to be perfect have bugs and end up being patched in a few days.HL2 isn't even that great of a game anymore, games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R., FarCry(and its mods) and BF2 already look just as good or better.Video games have a shelf life and these companies are allowing them to expire before they even reach stores...I personally have absolutely NO sympathy for them!
October 21, 200421 yr i think they hold back for more than small bug's.i think it would make more $ if they released them around time's like say x-mas.just my thought's
October 21, 200421 yr Hm, hard for the company. But they should secure themselves more. But the problem is, that so many people work on a game, that sometimes it is easy, that something like that happens. I hope that the PC Version is so good, like the GTA Games before. It is/was very much fun to drive around the city and solve some problems, either this way or that way.
October 21, 200421 yr Sorry Pun, I would have to highly disagree with you here. This is pure and simple a criminal act, doesn't matterif the company had the game done a week ago or a month or more! I work (as said a few times before) in the gaming industryand unless you are a real big jerk I don't think anyone workinghere would ruin his work by ripping it. Most companies dohave quite nice bonuses for their employees if the game isa huge hit (which is almost a given for Halo2 and GTA:San Andreas)So if you'd leaked it you are kind of shooting your self in thefoot. Who would do that?As for example in the case of Halo2 leak it has been tracedback to the Manufacturing plant. So it seems that a workertheir just took one of the copies home and ripped it. These manufacturing plants companies are bound by contractsand stuff to guarantee they wont leak the product they are manufacturing. But having two big title games leaked withinsuch a short amount of time will probably warrant some changes.Submission process for Console Games in particular is a quitetedious process that can take a lot of time. PC Games don't go through quite that much trouble. But people expect the gamethey buy to work a 99% and be as bug free as possible.Way to often PC games seem to be rushed out of the doorjust to have to provide a patch a few day after that. I'd ratherhave them make sure it's done before they release it.So companies take more and more time to test them (if theycare) and that's why some games take quite some time toget on the shelf of a store even after the company said theirdone.K-Town is right companies do wait for Holyday season to make sure the game gets sold more (and sometimes this is the reason why the game gets rushed to be released eventhough it isn't done)No mercy for Software pirates,[DIAL]Doc
October 21, 200421 yr even though i hate waiting for games, i agree with doc on this one. expecially for a console game, you can't just rush it out, becuase you can't just have a downloadable patch for it. i guess they should just make it more secure and you know, have a public execution for the person who leaks the game wouldn't that be great, watch cnn and good ol' beheadings will be back. have a different execution for each criminal. can't wait for the stoning!just my thoughts...
October 21, 200421 yr the thing with Hl2, the game's been done for months now, it's just that Vivendi went all cry baby and wanted to release it closer to the holiday season to cash in on Christmas sales
October 21, 200421 yr THIS IS BY NO MEANS A JUSTIFICATION FOR PIRACY!!!   Also the story is a bit more complicated than what you saidUnwanted. Vivendi and Valve are currently fighting a legalbattle about the releas of HL2 (I think it was posted earlier)That has delayed it too not just them wanting it for the Holidayseason. And just for the record I'm sure Valve dosen't mind itbeing sold then rather than just anytime. They are all in for the money :DP.S. Cow yeah, like in the old days where they chopped of thehand of a thief that should make a comeback, not as harsh asa public execution but sure a good way to say 'don't do it!'[DIAL]Doc
October 22, 200421 yr Author that seemed a little of topic, but oh well :Dif you steal something over the internet, then they should still cut off your hand, just cause that would be so cool 8)
October 22, 200421 yr Believe me, I am fully aware of how the business works.I myself, have no sympathy for them. Especially HL2(Sierra), I mean they had contracts with vid card companies which in mind obligated them to release the game ASAP.
October 22, 200421 yr And actually, the publisher and game developers can release a game whenever they want. Nowhere is it written that a manufacturer has to make its product available whenever the consumer wants. Game developers are businessmen, too. They will release a game when they feel that it will get them the best amount of profit. They don't make games for the community and the fans, they make games to make money. If any of you think otherwise, then you're naive and still don't understand how the world functions. Game companies don't owe you anything. Stop getting mad at them for taking long on the release of a product. It's not like they're stealing your money. And any of you that purchased their product already (aka HL2 Gold, Silver or Bronze packs) did so knowing well that those guys take long in releasing stuff, so don't go crying when they take too long according to your timeline.Edit: Yes, they may have a conflict with the video card companies, but that's something for them to work out on their own. It's not something that we have a stake in or have the authority to judge them about.
October 22, 200421 yr oh yeah,My senior year I wrote a paper on music piracy. In it I defended the music industry.Piracy is wrong, illegal, and so on...However, with technology increasing everyday its going to become harder and harder to stop piracy. When I was gathering info for my paper I came across Bills that were being addressed in Congress. From what I read it sounded like it will eventually be "anything goes" because of the simple fact that there is NO WAY to prosecute everyone in violation of the law.I would expect PC spoftware to coincide with the same laws. But then again, I might just be cracked out!
