November 23, 200421 yr From broadbandreports.com Half-Life 2 Honeypot Valve bans some 20,000 accounts According to posts over at the Steam and Half-Life2.Net message boards, rumors of a Half-Life 2 "Honeypot" trap for pirates were apparently true - to a degree. Valve did track usage of a particular CD activation key - and some 20,000 gamers who tried to use the key have now been banned from the Steam content service permanently. There are reports of pirated versions that do not run through steam, so the move is limited in its effectiveness to stop piracy of the title. Hope you guys didnt use a hacked version!

November 24, 200421 yr i wish they cared as much about catching hackers as the do making money well banning the hackers means 1. they will make more accounts, making steam look more popular 2. they will have to buy atleast HL1 ($6) they will probaly get HL2 ($60)
November 24, 200421 yr Alright finally some justice sort of. But that's funny for all those who used the pirate CD key are now screwed. That'll teach them. hehehe
November 24, 200421 yr 20,000. Im sure thats only a fraction of the actual amount of pirates out there. Piracy really has reached epic proportions. I mean 20,000 times 60 bucks, how much lost business is that alone???!??!? My calculator says 1.2 mill raw. Holy Cow
November 24, 200421 yr 20k users, wow. 20,000 less idiots to worry about.A hl2 version that doesn't use steam? can't play online, so they are stuck playing with themselves anyways.I'm glad valve is finally doing something about this. Now if they can do something about the cheating.
