HDTV (and regular tube) have VERY good and fine colour definition, good fro games and films... cheaper as well

PLasma has the advantage (with LCD) of being flat, small, but the gas in plasma needs to be replaced after a certian ammount of time, can cost almost as much as a new TV.

LCD is a good allrounder, VERY high definition of fonts and other on-screen text, not so good when it comes to displaying colour cost is an issue as well, more restricted life like plasma.

thats what i know.

i have 53" hdtv and it is quite amazing, you really notice a difference when the program is broadcasted in HD

anyway, what is boxing day :x

Thanks guys I was kinda leery about LCD and Plasma and heard they didnt last long. HD for me I guess. Then I just have to get a HD sat receiver. It never ends.

LCD is Very good for the money.

At that size you want, 42' to 52", they use a bulb to project the light. The bulb is good for like 5 years or more in most sets. Cost is around $200 to replace as of now. User replacement friendly btw. A Plasma is not replacable if it goes bad.

I would get a Sony 42" LCD set with HDTV built in. If you can afford it.

Otherwise a good HDTV Projection Screen is an option. They are bigger and give you the WOW factor in screen size especially if you ahve the surround system to back the image up.

I would NOT get a TUBE HDTV as it is OLD technology so to speak. Do yourself a favor and save the extra and get an LCD or a DLP set at least 42" diag screen size. They are almost as good as a Plasma but all you do is replace the bulb and the set is like new.

Thanks Mac but what is digital projecton as opposed to DLP Rear projection.. Which is best to buy? Maybe they are the same and I have no clue. Then I see digital dlp rear projection. I am confused. I just want to get something that is not going to be a dinosaur in 2 years. Nive t.v. too by the way MAC.

Basically the same thing but slightly different ways about getting the picture to the screen.

DLP and LCD(projection) use a bulb to get the light out of the LCD's so to speak.

Either one imho will do great once you get it home and have nothing to compare them to.

In order to use HDTV you will need a built in tuner or external. An outdoor antennae to recieve the signals from local channels. the Cable TV converter box for HDTV or if you have Satalite. Then you will need a new reciever to recieve the HD signals plus pay the extra fee to get the HD programming.

it will cost you more money a month to enjoy the better picture.

is it worth it?

Do you like Football? Do you really like CLEAR Crisp Football.

Then it is worth every penny.

Well, I knew I needed to get a new sat receiver that is compatible to HD. I can wait a while for that though because I assume DVD will look great and obviously better than my present JVC 27" t.v. :D Thanks for all the help.

Oh yeah.

buy LOCAL in case you have a problem.

I am just using these site for PHOTO reference.

Also just for reference HDTV is just the next step in TV standart (e.g. Higher resolution) it's not a TV type perse, you can have LCD, TV, Plasmas, etc. as HDTV. The newer the technology the more likely it's HDTV ready or set for that new standart.

Also an option not talked about is LCD Projectors, big picture, biggest draw back you need a 'dark' room (quotes because nowardays it's not as big of an issues as a few years back)

[DIAL]Doc

Yes DOC a projector is an inexpensive way to get a great pic but you need a screen and place to put the projector. The cooling fan is a bother, at least the ones I looked at.

This may be a great benifit for some people though that have the room for this idea.

Well, I took the big leap today. I took a good look all day at all possible stores and this one store had the best package. I liked the Sony Wega too but the stand ( I know that's not a great part of the t.v. but...) was 1000.00. So, I told the guy maybe if the stand was included you would sell more and he agreed but couldn't do anything about it so I left. :)

I Bought a Toshiba 52" Cinema Series DLP T.V.

A little more than I wanted to spend but I got the stand free(600$)

Got surround speakers (6) and receiver ( middle of the road )and Warranty( 5Yr.) thrown in too. Never mind the total cost but I will certainly be watching a lot more t.v. to justify the purchase. :)

Pics to follow tomorrow after I get it delivered and installed for FREE.

Yay can't wait.

Here it is.
