1996 Buick Regal. Not mine in the picture but pretty much exactly the same except that it's red, not tan (same condition even). Still in great shape, only 50,000 miles on it. Powerful engine, Leather (and power) seats, CD player, dual driver/passenger climate controles, remote lock and trunk, BF Goodrich tires. Boy do I like my car.

Ok, if I dropped 40K of mods into mine, I would rape the sh*t out of that thing. WRX's are putting out around 250-300hp with turbos, CIA, high flow exhaust, tuned timings, and run you about 40K depending on its year.

 

My car is putting out 250hp + 250ft-lb of torque, stock. I don't even have a K&N Air filter or Flowmaster exhaust which would add 10-25 more hp and 10ft-lb of torque. Cold-Air Intake adds about 20hp if you do it right, so between about 500$ worth of upgrades, I could be packing 300hp+. Given my baby cost me about 10K (after trade-in of my 95 cirrus lxi), I'm ahead of the game by about 25K.

 

If I added a Turbonetics turbo, I would get another 100-250hp depending on which turbo I got and how many psi I was running it at.

Off the line, I know a WRX would beat me, it has AWD, there's no denying that, but I would be able to catch up very quickly once the rubber and black top properly greet eachother.

 

Trust me on this, before it snowed here, I raced a 2004 civic with 20K sitting under the hood, he toasted me off the line, but once we hit 100kph (60mph), I took off and beat his little pansy ass by 5 lengths because his little golf cart engine didn't have any torque at 3000RPM or more. In 3rd gear, I'm turning about 3000RPM @ 160kph (100mph), goes into 4th, then I govern out at 180kph Lucky for me though, most people in Winnipeg don't go faster than 160kph, only the porsche + viper guys do anything more than that.

A brand new 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi costs 33-35k. And you won't need to buy anything else, unless you're dumb. So, your 40k in mods can't touch it at that bargain price. PWNED! Your car would still be great, but you'd have paid more than the person who bought the STi. 8)

Hayabusa, k, work out the math here, I could add twin turbos to setup, and get a minimum of 100hp, max of 300hp, so that puts my engine rating 350-550hp. 2 decent turbos run about 10K CDN, so I'm still down 10-15K on other mods, like exhaust, intake, suspension, gear ratios, boring out the engine, NoS. Remove the speed limiter from the computer, and I've got a car that could probably do 180mph without even changing the transmission (which I would probably do anyway), so gg I win.

 

And now that I think of it, if I had 50K to spend on a car, and I wanted something that could beat a STi, I would go grab a Audi A6 GT edition, 0-60 in 3 seconds flat, STi can't touch that.

You say your car cost you only 10k because of a trade in. Wrong. It cost you the price of the Cirrus (brand new they were about 20k, you might have paid less), what you may/may not have paid in interest on the Cirrus if you financed, plus 10k, plus 40k. That's well over 60k in a generous estimate. 60k vs 35k. Hmmm, doesn't take rocket science to know why your car would be faster. 50k for the Audi vs 35k for the Subaru. Hmmm, doesn't take rocket science for that either.

 

Plus, what kind of tires and brakes do you have? I'm just wondering, since it's already been concluded that the Subaru won't school your car.

Well, in it's current condition, a Geo Metro could beat my car off the line.

 

Snow + low profile tires + people stopped in the middle of the road with no brake lights or turn signals = 5000$+ in damage to my front end.
