Steam not working HELP

Featured Replies

Ok today while I was connected to Steam I unplugged my router ( bot the power but the line connection) then I got an error that said my connection has failed. I expected that and said OK to that then when I tried to restart STEAM it asked me to renew my connection. No problem I guess until I typed my password in and it said it could not connect. I do have the correct password ( I wrote it down) but still no connect. I tried to retreive information by using USER NAME which I know also. NOTHING. I tried to retreive with cd key and it says that it has sent an email but I receive nothing. I also had the correct email adress. I know the system is working because I checked armory whos playing now and there were players there and I also checked Steam status and it was fine. So what gives. I sent them a email with my info and hopefully they get back to me sometime this century. Guess I wont be around online for a while for you all to Frag.

Any suggestions here? Can something be deleted in my registry or somehting or does it go by IP number and I am screwed? HELP

i did a virus scan and deleted 3 viruses, didint help, shut off xfire, didnt help, shut off avg, didnt help

Do you get this too when you try to retreive password? Ha ha ride it out whatta ya mean how long ? You know what's weird? I did a virus scan too and deleted one spyware thing and then this happened a little later.

That looks like a Steam side problem not client side. I think they're having a few problems at the moment because there's quite a few people having the exact same problem. Just keep trying :D

I have a 0:1 ID as well. I asked everyone in the vent channel that was playing what their ID started with, theirs all started with a 0:0

So, I guess everyone with a 0:1 are just screwed tonight....

still no help, the smile refers to a point when playing that yo uwere happy, i have yet to play and reach that point.....

Well...make that point when you were playing last. :D

or rather, refer to the end of my sig.

Valve posted in the steam forums:

Yes, something was not right (but now fixed) (01-30-2005 until 03-02-2005)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes as is pretty clear from what you've read or from the fact you couldn't get Steam started, something was not quite right today. Some accounts were able to log in right, and some could not.

Please be assured that if you had problems, it was only temporary and your accounts have not been lost or damaged or otherwise compromised.

PS

I turned off forum search to help with the load. We're being slashdotted right now plus obviously a lot of you are coming here to see what's up. We'll turn it back on soon.

I find it funny that they do not tell us what the problem was....

I always tell my customers what the problem and soluction was when we have a large ammount of downtime.

Oh wait, heres a halfassed reason...

OK OK Varsity I'll say something.

A back end system apparently had "issues". All patched up now.

The forums have been crappy because of the huge traffic load from users and from being mentioned on http://www.slashdot.org - turning off Search seems to have taken care of the load issue for now. We'll turn it back on tomorrow when it's a bit quieter.
