February 4, 200521 yr I've looked on eBay for Half-Life 2 (preferably Silver, but I've looked at Bronze, too) and a few things (besides lack of money) have stopped me from buying. If I buy a serial from someone, what's to stop him from selling that same serial to someone else later? If I buy the game-in-a-box from someone, how do I know they haven't already used the serial for themselves? Now, I've seen quite a few auctions for the entire steam account (especially when looking for Silver). The fact that I'd have to use their account is a bummer -- even though I could change the associated email and password, I'd rather keep my current steam_ID -- but I can't think of any way I can get screwed going with this option. That's my big question: How can I get screwed if I buy the entire steam account with HL2:Silver attached?
February 4, 200521 yr I don't know if this would apply to you, but when I got hl2, I just installed it. I never had to put in a new steam account or anything so, I'm thinking that during installation it probably detects that you already have a steam account and ID and doesn't put that stuff in but I'm not 100% sure on that

If Valve has silent detection going on, like we all think/hope they do, then if the user had used hacks with his account it could be banned once VAC is released. I personally would NEVER buy a game that required a CD key off Ebay or any other related site. Bestbuy/CompUSA/GameStop/EB, newegg, or another other online store.
