Yep, probably the BIGGEST mistake Microsoft has made to date...

Thats because they dropped support for it almost immediately after they released it... :D :)

XP has never ever ever given me problems. I have had since the week it came out and by golly I love it. Yes a lot of patches, but they were all for things that never effected me.

Yep, same here DEFCON, I would never go back. Was a slow, reluctant convert from Win98 (eek), but glad I finally did it..

ya. i love 98. took me a while to switch too. but i never have had a problem with it. :/

the problem is that it doesnt depend on the OS, it depends on whether or not microsoft has control of your OS. I was at a lan and the only computer not working had a legal copy of XP!! (plus, choose the updates you want; dont just auto install. You really dont want some of the updates they have)

I run XP Pro w/SP2 and run and install all the critical updates. I've only experienced one problem with an updated from them and it was while I was running Win98 I think, it caused a slow down in the system, but was fixable by uninstalling it. THey then shortly moved it off the critical update list, and came out with another one... :D I very rarely have any problem with the current OS, and the few times I do, its usually user generated problems. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Microsoft follower, but I have been pretty pleased with XP Pro from start to current.

I like Win ME b/c of this crap.

It's the truth too.

Yeah, I sure hate it when security patches are released. How dare they make my system more secure!
