OK, well, since the media certainly isnt going to give this any real attention, I thought I would post this here in hopes of getting the information out:

The Medal of Honor is to be awarded posthumously to a soldier who died defending a medical aid station by himself with an M113 50 cal during the ending stages of OIF.

Heres a link:

strange that this article was buried in the archive section, to me this is big news, I would rather win the MOH then be president of the US.

PS

If you have something nasty to say, something stupid to say, something totally offtopic or disrepectful to say... KEEP IT TO YOURSELF. Just pass this info along if you care. I realize a lot of you have differing opinions on Iraq, but I ask you just this once to not turn this thread into a controversy. I will respect your opinion if you respect mine

First rule of a Sergeant is to safe his company men and protect screw members : he made a nice work and the metal is merited.

Egidio.

Wow. When I was in basic I only saw really one barracks. My DS had a wall with pictures and stories of men and some women doing just amazing things. They pushed their body and were able to keep it together at a level that most of us in this world will never reach. Some of them lived, but sadly most of them died. Either way though, this is something that should be put on the wall, and deserves to be heard by all.

I know people in this world are always saying that they can beat this guy, and this guy, and that guy. But, in real life when you are going against something that you know can end your life at any time. Well...its a whole different story.

He made the ultimate sacrifice to save his comrades. He definetely deserves the Medal of Honor. I salute you, Sgt. 1st Class Paul Ray Smith and all other soldiers and sailors who lost thier lives protecting freedom.
It does not matter who's side you are on. He was protecting what he believed in and did it without regard for himself. This goes for any war or battle. There are hero's on both sides. Unfortuately. He left a family behind. That is a tragedy in itself.
I would say something nice, but mere words fall short. Well deserved. Good men like this are the reasons many soldiers get to go home and start families...

UPDATE: HOLY CRAP, it actually made the news. I was totally surprised, what with the Pope's death (A major priority) and the media's less than military friendly slant
