And we got into a discussion on numerical prefixes for computer storage like mega, giga, terra, etc. I said that the coolest one was exabyte, or roughly one quintillion bytes, i mean come on, exabyte sounds so much cooler than gigabyte or petabyte. So we proceded to figure out how to put gigabytes in terms of exabytes, since the term gigabyte usually come up on a day by day basis. So here we go, I shall hence forth refer to gigabytes as nano-exabytes. Saying, "yeah, my computer has over 60 nano-exabytes of storage" just sounds so much cooler and nerdier than "yeah, my computer has over 60 gigs of storage" Wouldnt you guys agree?

 

Later, we got into a discussion about a Google (not the site, the number), 10^100, and a googleplex, 10 followed by a google 0's. We wanted to know if there were a googleplex or even a google atoms in the entire universe, so we did some calculations. They were pretty rough, but even when we inserted huge fudge factors, the number didnt even come close to a google. So, assuming almost 100% of matter is hydrogen, and not counting any other particles but those in atoms, there are approximately 10^68 atoms in the universe, give or take a couple trillion trillions. Doesnt sound like much does it?

So, assuming almost 100% of matter is hydrogen, and not counting any other particles but those in atoms, there are approximately 10^68 atoms in the universe, give or take a couple trillion trillions. Doesnt sound like much does it?

I'll say give... few (like 10-20) zero's.

Anyhoo, yeah, thats what we thought in regards to the number of atoms, but even after trying to take into account other things, the number didnt grow by that much (only a couple trillion trillions).

but that doesnt seem like it is right because everything is made of atoms and there are like a kagillion bazillion of them on earth and thats just earth....think about all the stars and planets and other stuff in space and plus if the universe never ends then there would be an infinite number of atoms....right?

 

 

 

some website says there are this many in the world:

 

133,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

 

and if there are that many in the world then there are definately a googleplex out there somewhere

 

googleplex = 1 followed by 99 zeros, right?

Do this:

1) find appx. volume of the universe (NASA or something)

2) find appx. avg. density of it (see above)

3) do the math (duh)

4) copy results to this thread

5) do it, becouse im too lazy to do it myself. And besides im not in the amounts of 10^60. I went the opposite way - to 10^-15.
