May 24, 200520 yr I finally decided to upgrade my video card and get some more ram I ordered an MSI 6600GT and two sticks of Rosewill PC3200 184 pin 512mb DDR
May 25, 200520 yr That's some shotty RAM. Send it to me for some permanent testing... I'd love to have 2 gigs. /already has 1 gig //Doesn't know why he wants two gigs ///Still wants two gigs...
May 25, 200520 yr Author With those 2 sticks I'd have 2 gigs but I'm taking the PC2700 stick out so I'll have 1500mb running at 400mhz
May 25, 200520 yr Author ok I got everything today and everything is working except for one thing After I rebooted, I got a message saying that the video card (6600GT) wasn't receiving enough power and was operating at a lower level. I have a 420watt power supply and this card says it only needs a 350watt. Why is this happening? I do have 6 case fans. Could that be it. I've never gotten this message before. There was an outlet in the back of the card but I think that was only for SLI. Should I unplug some of the usb devices that I don't use that often?

How many watts might each of those draw ? :o Could he be in danger of burning out power supply or power drops causing mobo lockups ?
May 25, 200520 yr No, you need to plug in a power connecter from your PSU to the video card, if that's the type of connector you're refferring too, the card needs the extra power.. TFD
May 25, 200520 yr Author lol I clearly was half asleep when I did this because I forgot all about the power cord. Thanks for reminding me TFD :o
May 25, 200520 yr LOL. My 6800 absolutely SCREAMS when you leave the power connector off. Good catch. Hope all is well.
May 27, 200520 yr Author Its working great. I just have a question. I set its memory clock to 1000mhz where its at with PCIX cards. If I set the core and memory with optimal frequencies will that still harm the card because it is still overclocking? Are the optimal frequencies where the card has the best performance without compensating too much cooling?
May 27, 200520 yr It is just the way nvidia makes the software which find sfrequencies that the card can achieve w/o locking up or causing performance issues. It is still overclocking. I have never destroyed a card b/c of overclocking too high. I have modded cards. Made them go faster yet and had them self destruct. So if you need the frames. Feel free to overclock. You have a warrantee too.
May 27, 200520 yr Author It is at default right now 500mhz core and 1.01Ghz memory I get great performance at those settings, so I might leave for the time being. I'll probably overclock when BF2 comes out.
